    i was just listening to that yesterday. the first track is such a killer, but it seems like straight up slowed down and that's it. this album is like half mix half plunder. some of it doesn't really typify vaporwave to me. great tho. I actually listened to this right when it came out. there was that other one, virtual information desk, which is vanished.

    that is virtual information desk

    Also, for me that release was always the most "vaporwave" release out there. The 80s nostagia whatever thing never appealed to me much.

    I like the last track so much because it takes a plunder approach and makes it its own new expressive thing. I like how it doesn't over-manipulate the sample: just looping and pitching, but the way the pitched-down tones interact creates a sense of harmonic progression, and I love how the higher-pitched samples get cut off, and how the full sample slowly reveals itself as it goes, climaxes, then outro -- great structure. I also really like the ostinato.

  3. Has anyone asked about the "Fermium" video?

    How did that come about, and what is going on in it? Do you see it as relating to the music in any meaningful way?

    I see it as them being on a psychedelics binge and ending at that moment when it hits you like the shits that you have been created, are self-conscious, are one kazillionth the size of the universe, and are going to die and everything is beautiful and you're crying from terror!

  4. So, you write your music; and a lot of the rhythms and melodies vary widely from bar to bar.

    When I listen to it, I have memorized some of them, but there are always parts that sound new to me because I don't remember that particular variation, and there are so many different ones (fills, riffs and such) -- does that happen to you too? Are you still surprised by what happens in the songs, or do you know them backwards and forwards since you made them and listened to them so many times during the final mix process? (I know generative vs. non-generative writing makes a difference here, feel free to comment on either case.)

    Btw, that's one of my favorite parts about your music, that (cliché as it sounds) I am always hearing new things and being surprised and entertained. :)

  5. What influences how you order the tracks on an album? Are you thinking in terms of LP-side 'chunks' of music, or is it different for different LPs, one maybe where you'll have CD in mind and think of all the tracks together as a long-form sound experience? Do you have any albums you've thought of in terms of one-off files, where you would be indifferent to the order the tracks are listened in?

    Also, this is my favorite bit from the Glasgow Art School soundboard -- I would be over the moon if you released this as a full track on something!!

  6. I'm finally getting into it as anal bum, but at first I couldn't listen to it because it made me feel so unsettled.

    Their desription of the album totally expressed the unidentifiable feeling it gave me -- I would walk outside afterward and see all these people out on the sunny Chicago streets, but feel like we were all just going out into public to anticipate together the end of the world within the next hour. <:{

  7.

    And my other Pacific Northwest IPA recommendation would be this:

    I prefer Red Hook's Longhammer.

    K, just tried the LH & I can see what you would say that -- the Ninkasi is much sweeter, whereas the LH is crisp and more predominantly bitter. I'd have to try them side-by-side, but atm I like both! Thanks for the recommendation!
