even today, political divisions exist because of differing interpretations of the war. was reading some russian news site, even today they deny that the soviets did any bad shit during the war, and blame britain for egging on hitler and starting the war. what the fuck

shouldn't be that surprising, World War II has some very still controversial issues. I was kind of in the dark about alternate views of WWII until i visted the Hiroshima museum in japan. For my whole life i was brought up to believe that the nuke being dropped 'saved lives'. i'm sure you can find people even on here taking either side of the argument

No, you're correct. It's fairly arbitrary which date you use, and I think most Europeans probably use the 1st, but the 3rd somehow seems more 'British' as it's when Chamberlain made his broadcast.
