London - Hotel? Club?

Ended up with some hotel in Aldgate. Was warned that it's a bit arsy/trendy around there. Not fond of clubs where business types stand around and compare mobile phones. Anything recommended?

go to alfies markets, its absolutely fantastic, best on the weekend

I like this pub, Princess Alice. Nothing going on in it, just a good place for a pint and if youre at the Ibis, its accross the road. And if you dont like the pub, you can just laugh at the slip on shoes, vests and sailor tats on the hipsters.

i had a swift pint there once, while waiting for our nearby estate agents to get their shit together. nice place. i would also recommend checking out the rootmaster for a good vegan meal but i think that closed down a couple of weeks ago. if you like cocktails, verge has good barstaff but it's expensive and full of wankers. the redchurch is even more expensive but if you've got money to burn the drinks menu is incredible. nude espresso and brick lane coffee shop are good if you're not into booze. these places are all within five or ten minutes walk of aldgate east tube.

as for clubs i have no idea, i don't go clubbing.

not sure why people are recommending places in holborn and peckham.

wait, i tell a damn lie, i do drink in the louise. it has that weird little side-bit doesn't it? you can still get away with smoking in there if you're canny.

i love sam smiths pubs generally, there's a great one in peterborough. but i still prefer the john snow.

Hmmmmmmmmmm.

If only I could remember the names of places. On Friday night we ended up drinking in the Old Red Lion Theatre pub, on Pentonville Road, and went to some late bar there serving till 4 am.

On Saturday we started early, at 3, in the Florence off Upper Street, and wound our way to some pub wehere they were belting out live soul and funk numbers, and some other place till 2 in the morning.

So drank a lot, but no deep house.

Stayed in the Hotel Indigo near Tower Bridge. Lovely spot.
