SHORT ATTENTION SPAN Q&A:

Q: Why the Q&A?

A: I have just released an unheard collection of 31 tracks.

Q: Why Aleksi Perala as a label?

A: Over the past few months I have been re-designing my website with the idea of it being a hub for my ideas, exploration of music and sound. The feedback from my online ‘sound of the week’ and musical tuning systems has been really good so far. After making music for over 20 years I now have a huge vault of tracks and sounds, and with the website I have built an ideal medium to share this. My own release is a natural step.

Q: Why an Ovuca release?

A: I made these tracks back in 1998 in my Ovuca days [so I made them without a computer]. As it has been 10 years since the last Ovuca release I thought it was about time; both for me, for existing fans of Ovuca and for new people interested in what I do. I love the tracks and hope you will too!

Q: Why is it called ‘Short Attention Span’?

A: Because at the time I had a very short attention span! Hence the tracks are quite short and very straight to the point. They are condensed to a minimum. The collection has a grab your attention quick and passionate sort of attitude reminiscent to me of the time I made them.

Q: What instruments did you use to make the tracks?

A: Back in ’98 I only had a Roland XP-80 and later an Akai MPC-2000. I edited and mastered the tracks in 2011.

Q: Please give a brief summary of what your listener can expect?

A: Listeners familiar with Lactavent and Onclements will hear a continuation of that experimental sound. The album starts fast and ends slow: Track 1 ‘Fantasy’ is 176 BPM, and the album winds down to 40 BPM at Track 28 ‘Off We Go’. Thereafter I omit the beats to ambient sound culminating in the 8 minute final Track 31 ‘Luosto’. Luosto is the name of a mountain in Lapland. For a time I lived in isolation in a log cabin next to the mountain - it was there that I made the track.

Q: Where can I buy ‘Short Attention Span’?

A: It is available at http://aleksiperala.bandcamp.com

Q: A final word?

A: Enjoy listening!
