Hi all! I made a goofy little Casiocore track with a RZ-1 and an old keyboard. Obviously very lo-fi, and definitely on the formulaic side. But hey, why not listen to it and tell me what you think? Thanks in advance!

Okay seriously...

I would say you could be mix the song to be alot more compelling. Lo-fi is one thing but your mixdown is clipping. There is no 3D-ish depth to the mix (everything is roughly at the same level occupying the same frequency space etc). Simply using HPFs and LPFs judiciously could do magical things. The bass is pretty punchy but with compression and a touch of EQ the drums could be punchier.

one thing that really adds depth to lo-fi mixes is reverb. I'm guessing your drums are all on one track, but still you could add reverb to the snare drum only by setting up a reverb send and putting a gate before it (or a bandpass filter before it so that you're only adding reverb to the snare frequencies).

Anyway, I personally like to obsess over my mixes and get the most out of the track that I can. I feel like that track could be so much better and ambitious, despite its humble beginnings.

Hey, thanks a ton guys! I've never had any proper instruction on mixing or recording, so I'm kind of figuring things out as I go along. But I'm really working on it and appreciating the advice (LimpyLoo, your Tips du Jour are a freaking GOLDMINE). So, thanks, I'll post some other stuff up here in a bit.
