Right on - nice spot to check out! Meant to say nice scope btw. And thanks man. Good to see you're still here!correct! we were looking at the hercules globular cluster, iirc!
this shot is nothing but long exposure.
oh, and welcome back skytree!
not my scope, wish it was. that's several thousand $$$ of scope when you add the auto-tracking and computerised aiming.

what's that green line coming down there?
High-powered laser for spotting/targeting. (: Quite handy for astronomy.

amazing...I think this is the first time I opened the gate on this thread and had a mooch about, this photo is unbelievable. I cannot imagine the rush you must get from actually being there, seeing and witnessing this and then having this photo as a reference point for the rest of your life.
I've seen some halcyonic night skies myself, but you know it's depressing to a degree that those pictures in my mind gradually blunt with age, I wish I had photos like this to record those moments, so they remain crystal clear.
Great photo man.
awwww
it was an amazing night, and i'll be attending their star parties in the future for sure!

wtf is this from the hubble telescope or what manthe highlights of the night for me were seeing a meteorite through the eyepiece (i got very excited, but apparently it's quite common), and viewing andromeda and the veil nebula (pics below not from the starparty) - we also looked at loads of globular clusters, the dumbbell nebula, and uranus and neptune (nebulae are much more impressive than those planets):

these are from comparable to what i was looking through. this is what you can see from earth.

kaini: "holy shit a meteorite! its a meteorite! i'm actually looking at a meteorite!"
eyepiece expert: "pfsh, big fuckin' deal"
its like watmm irl
pretty much. we had two old dudes (in their seventies, lifelong members) sighting stars through the boxy wooden dob i posted above like it wasn't a big deal. no laser sight, just... 'oh, andromeda? just a bit up and to the left of the second star in the plough.' they knew every inch of the sky, incredible shit.

What settings did you have your camera in to manage to pick up all those stars? I've never been able to master night photography.
very long exposure in a place with absolutely zero light pollution (the burren)
the telescope is a 20 inch dobsonian reflector with an auto-guide servo. very very expensive bit of kit.
here's another shot from the same night. the milky way was so visible it was fucking nuts.
we also had this beautiful old girl out for the night, a 12 inch dob reflector which must be at least 25 years old.

I've finally entered the zone of 'music I am genuinely unable to comprehend'
i quite like that

Now is when we completely ignore the points he made and complain autistically about the numerical score right?
correct.
i'd give your comment a strong 8.

Look, I am a massive Aphex Twin fan. Have been since I was about 13 when I bought SAWII (in 1994). Bought everything I get my hands on, saw him live, etc etc. and completely fell in love with everything he did. I adore the hugeness of his ideas, his totally unique vision and approach, and his seemingly endless exploration of sound, emotion and journey, through a mysterious and dark world he has created entirely in his own mind. An utter genius, and my all time favourite. Genuinely.
But this new album, displays nothing of what I fell in love with, and nothing of what made him massively and hugely pan-galactic in his sheer artistry and ability to paint an emotive world in your mind.
I have started to list the things missing in Syro in another post, to show that I am not just out on a troll mission, and to validate my opinion with reason. I would have thought this would count for something.
If it really is the case of, if you are not a complete unquestioning fanboy you are not welcome on WATMM, then I will happily leave you all to it, and just listen to all of his music without bothering to engage with other people into it.
Feel free to tell me to fuck off again and call me a cunt, if that makes you feel better, but I think I have at least given reason to my thoughts on Syro and have not handed out any direct insults to anyone which can't be said for everyone else replying to me.
you don't like it. that's fine.
what's not fine is blanket statements like "if you think it's good, you're wrong".
that just makes you look like a cunt.
music appreciation is a 100% subjective thing.
