  1. check the thread in new & upcoming releases

previews sound fucking wicked; might even be better than exai (!). track 3 is fucked up! like, the same kind of "what the fuck am I listening to?" sound that I haven't experienced since parhelic triangle

edit again: yeah, definitely a lot more processed sounding than exai, imo

Wow sounds good! I wont be listening to any samples but what you say hear is getting me excited.

  2. For those saying they expect the unexpected out of ae and not a predictable or non groundbreaking sound/ep, the fact that you don't expect these two to be tracks on the ep is the unexpected. So therefore if these two are 4 da realz and on the release then they've done something unexpected. Sean thought this through carefully, crafty little bugger.

since most in here adamantly disagree with me that Exai is not a very strong record, can I get some agreement that perhaps a 4 track EP shows that they might possibly put tracks of a higher level of technical intricacy on it? I can't remember the last time they released something with so little material on it besides Gantz Graf, which arguably was among their last works to be filled to the brim with clinical sound design and micro edits.

Are you be saing that Draft n Untilted were not filled to the brim with clinical sound design and micro edits?

    U wana spanking?

draft really is the last one imo, Untilted was filled to the bring with micro programming midi stuff, but the sound design and 'editing' (if it can really even be called that, i guess the digital splice factor) seemed lacking compared to Draft or Gantz Graf. It wasn't like it was inferior necessarily, but beyond being just simply 'different' it was overtly more minimal and skeletal than before which would make it inherently less complex

Yeah I would agree about the non rhythmic elements in Untilted not having as much depth and broadness, but it was still really lush sound design wise in a lot of tracks, like Augmatic Disport. But yeah it's different, and I like the depth that the sounds on Confield or Draft had. So much room in all of the 'space'.

And Exai's a great album and all but it just doesn't hold enough depth to have the same replay value as the ones mentioned above.

    Hoping the EP is different.

I have literally no idea. If these tracks are from the same sessions as Exai then they would have existed then. Could have been a private CD-R. Who knows..

And Warp doesn't do promo CDs anymore, just watermarked Fatdrop MP3s, so...

He mentioned that the guy who gave him CD was in Vietnam. It must be Warp employee or affiliate, because he warned him about watermarking. Maybe it's possible to track the bastard down (for not uploading it)?

We know from the Black Dog that EP was done before Exai.

If it was done before Exai I wonder if the sound palette would still be the same. Probably, that Octatrack sound.

  6. it was three months between tdr's facebook post and the announcement of exai. might be on the shelf for a minute due to a crowded release schedule this last half of the year.

What do they have coming out other than Feast/Beast? Nothing comes to mind.

  7. Give it some time & love.. imho it's not an instant gratification machine.... :]

I've made a little iPad thing for the Analog Four which gives it polyphhony.. it's currently in the App Store review queue but should be available soon (i hope)... if you have a Mac with 10.7 or higher, it also runs on that, I could post it here if you're interested.

Yes please! And yeah I'm still new to hardware and all that so I guess I just need to get over the learning curve.

Now I kinda regret getting the a4 and not the mm even more... I think I'm gona cry over my stupidity.

you serious? don't like the A4?

yeah the MnM can sound like a completely mental SNES, but there's a many lush stuffs you can do with the A4 which are not possible with a MnM, especially on the performance side of things.

I'm really hard for the MnM myself, but never as a replacement for the A4. you gotta pry this thing from my cold dead hands, it's very awesome.

It's definitely because I haven't been able to get anything good out of it yet. But then again I've been spending more time on the MD and learning that. I'm gona go in to see my teacher/friend next week to get some lessons and tips on the A4.

I don't know I just really like the sounds coming form the mnm but like I said I gotta play around with the A4 more.

  9. So yeah, I finally got to play around with the two a little bit today. And I honestly have very little idea of what I'm doing. I know synthesis and all that I just don't know how to program the shit yet. And the MD manual's really thick so I'm intimidated by it. Any starter tips or anything would really help. (It's my first time using something that's not Logic)
