  1. fuck. krYlon is fucking gorgeous. i can't stop listening to this album aargh!

I've noticed that there's what appears to be the sound of a girl being fucked at the very end of redfall, its quite quiet and hard to tell if that's what it is or not. After that there is a slightly louder sample of a male exhaling abruptly several times. Does anyone else notice this?

i can hear some sounds, but they could be anything!

  2. sounds like it could be that same mysterious sound used in Fermium or even Simm but have you tried played with the instruments Tension or Collider that come with Ableton Live? also check out Sculpture inside logic audio. It's a shame that the best phys mod plugins can't be used in other Daws.

you can use certain settings in these programs where you get almost an acoustic resonating chamber overdrive effect and it sounds very cybery/shiny but also kind of acoustic. usually running an object made out of metal (in collision: plate or beam, in sculpture : steel ) and using very high pitched notes on it gets an effect kind of like this, not exactly.

hmm, i don't have live or logic, so i can't really try out these plugins. shame because i'd love to get into physical modelling synthesis at some point. maybe i'll play around with reaktor a bit more.

Hmmmm.... that's always the way I perceived my own music but I think most people think it's more ambient... what do you guys all think?

    ....anyone?

    :emotawesomepm9:

yeah i'd say your stuff is more ambient, well at least yellower days is, imo. speaking of which, i should really listen to it more, it's a wonderful album!

actually everyone needs to listen to yellower days and my album city fighter jacky in poke world! zole!

  3. anyone have a clue how to make some of those gnarly high end guitarish rip sounds on redfall? sounds Fm but not like any i've heard

i'm sure i've made sounds like that with the synth1 vst.. which is apparently a nord lead clone? i'll have a play with it this weekend and see what i can come up with. i've never been too good with typical fm synths though. too complex for me hehe.

what i really want to know is how the fuck they did that high melody in known(1). it's so ridiculous! (in a good way)

in a way i'm glad autechre has maybe opened people's minds a little towards synthy stuff with no beats, cause i plan on putting out a lot of it in the future :)

    so do i :emotawesomepm9:

  4. let me just say that i've listened 4 times and it's sounding fucking brilliant so far. i might have to force myself to leave it alone until the vinyl is in my hands though.. don't want to get used to this version, zole!

I thought before it'd be Oversteps as in 'screw you, we're next level, we're one step ahead.'

This is what I was thinking too, before any of the leak discussions, but from the sound of it that may have been a gross misinterpretation. We'll see.

lol let's all gang up and write some percussion for this album and re-leak it.

Shit, that reminds me...I meant to say in the other thread that once this leak is confirmed official, after release, whatever...WATMM should make a remix album. I'm just saying that based on all the disappointment and comments about it being simple, beatless, too melodic, etc...let's (I mean you guys not me) tear this fucker up!!! I would love to hear reinterpretations. Though I still haven't heard it, for all I know I'll love it just the way it is.

haha! well, it's kinda already been done. listen to the 2nd leak (the rapidshare one), it's mostly tracks by watmmers (except track 3). though it was reinterpretations before we heard it, lol.

At least something useful has come out of this mega-thread

Altered: Carbon is some damn fine work - I suggest you grab it from their myspace page immediately

The question now is.... Altered:Carbon > Oversteps ???

almost. it is a very beautiful album, especially the last track, hot damn. if it wasn't such a blatant ripoff of autechre it might be better!

  5. Since this thread is off to a negative start, I just thought I would vent on the distortion in Ilanders and the beaty track nearish the end. I am all for distortions - usually love it. But this sounds pretty terrible and overdone to me. Its on the snare, bassdrum and all the synths. And afaik ae have never gone overboard on horrible distortion before. Sounds like cheap amp sims up in my face or something. And really out of place VS the rest of the album.

actually i think the distortion in ilanders is great. nice and crunchy. i kinda wish the rest of the album sounded like that! i think if the whole album had beats like in ilanders, it'd be fuckin' excellent.

lol let's all gang up and write some percussion for this album and re-leak it.

  6. al ot of the melodies in Treale sound generative and kind of noodly but they get a really cohesive point at parts in the song where you are just like holy shit. it sonds like capture a magical 4 bar melody out of an algorithmic midi mpatch and decided to harnass it as the lead repeating line

yeah, that's what i thought about see on see. i find it interesting how much hate it's getting actually, i really love that main high melody in the 'chorus'.

  7. fuck, i'm loving d-sho qub. holy shit, it's like depeche mode on acid or something lol. that said, there are a few tracks on this album (pt2ph8, redfall, krYlon and yuop seem a little noodly upon first, second and third listens) that i don't quite 'get' yet, though pretty much all of confield was like that for a while until i came back to it after not listening for a year and it all made sense. perhaps some of these noodly generative sounding melodies actually make more sense once you memorise them? i dunno.

i love that ilanders and see on see (and probably others, i haven't really listened enough yet) seem to have 'choruses'.

yeah heh i know, but in the larger scheme of thigns it's good. I think the more atmospheric electronic music that doesn't fall neatly into ambient, doesnt have the fame and mystique of Gerald Donald/dopplereffekt and doesn't make purely throw back library music it makes it harder to catchy someones attention with instrumental synth albums with no beats underneath in the IDM/weird electronic scene.

this is something i noticed recently, so much idm these days is percussion based, and even when highly melodic there is still some type of drum work present. hence why most of my new electronic stuff is gonna be largely beatless (and not because of oversteps).

  8. damn - this thread is a clusterfuck.

this is what happens when you announce a well-anticipated album 3 months in advance in 2010.

of COURSE it's going to leak. of COURSE it'll be all over the net in a matter of minutes.

it's just a matter of when. i'm actually surpised it didn't happen sooner.

check google - currently easily available & circulating: the first fake, the second fake, the single track m4a, and the single track m4a cut up into individual tracks & re-encoded as VBR mp3s... some people are still walking around thinking that Altered:Carbon album is Oversteps. what a fucking mess.

what WARP should have done is obvious: announce the album & BAM - instantly available for download from WARP. get the digital version immediately & the vinyl & cds ship later. no one knew that a new AE album was coming until WARP announced it. if people could have gotten it right away at that point they wouldn't have been able to get out their wallets fast enough. this is what makes sense in 2010.

what DOESN'T make the slightest bit of sense is announcing the album & then sitting on it for 3 months.

while at the same time sending copies of it out to reviewers for print media and hoping it wont leak.

this whole system is just to cater to the slow cycles of print magazines, but c'mon... who still buys those things?

whose going to be walking past the magazine rack and "oh wow! look! Autechre has a new album coming out!"

99% of the people interested in the new AE album already know about it. they knew about it the day WARP announced it & word spread online like wildfire... or they knew about it the day after when Pitchfork put it up on their main news page.

now, you've got 1000's of people already listening to it & critiquing it & arguing about it - long before the first review has even been published.

stupid WARP. wake up & join the 21st century.

i hope they never pull this crap again. they should have at least released the digital downloads right when the leak first happened. interest is already starting to wane.

i agree but it sure was fun being part of the second fake!
