  1. yeah i might try to mimic the beat in parhelic triangle with acoustic percussion. at some point. though i'll probably do the metal cover of iera before that.

  2. here's a cover of parhelic triangle i recorded:

    post-rock band covers autechre

keep in mind it was made in 2006 when i was only just starting to get into recording post-rock, so it's a little sloppy and overcompressed (also it's one of the first times i'd ever played drums), but i guess it kinda fits the mood of the track, or something.

If you haven't heard this track you should certainly do so immediately.

and if you haven't heard the original neu! tracks that it was based on, you should do so immediately!

couldn't find im gluck on youtube, but weissensee is a great track.

  3. confield is definitely a summer album for me. reminds me when i was studying, and going for long walks around my place of study in light bushy areas. the hihats in uviol mimicking the cicadas. great times! if the weather is good this weekend i'll go and sit out in the park with speakers and beers and blast confield. awesome!

  4. And the 16+ minute version of it from the 2008 webcast is insane!

yes that was beautiful, has anybody managed to clip that song as well as the other handful of long versions they did ? I recall one from Draft as well that was over 12 minutes.

i've got them somewhere, i'll see what i can do tonight

  5. i love the beginning and very end of lentic catachresis (with the glitching). the middle part, i still haven't 'unlocked' yet.

and parhelic triangle is definitely the best track, imo.

  6. fuck you phillip glass

it's true. not only has he quit the music industry, he physically can't drum anymore:

In September 2009, Collins publicly declared that he can no longer play drums, due to a recent operation to repair dislocated vertebrae in his neck, that has left him unable to hold his drumsticks. He has also lost his ability to play piano.

    progressive rock is dead

  7. you know, that ad is the reason why phil quit music.

ARE YOU HAPPY NOW CADBURY? NOW THERE REALLY WON'T BE A PROPER GENESIS REUNION!

also, face value is a really, really good album. not nearly as good as duke or a trick of the tail, but still pretty damn awesome, considering it was mostly recorded in a home studio.

also also, that ad is about two years old.

  8. I don't really understand whats going on here but when I went to that link the really old webcast links were dead and I would really like to hear that shit if anybody has them lying around.

  9. sorry if these have been suggested before

caribou - old stuff is more electronic, new stuff he uses more live instruments, the guy is a phenomenal musician though, especially on drums

tortoise - jazzy, laid back groovy music with a good amount of layers. Ae remixed 2 of their tracks, actually.

cepia - this stuff isn't insanely technical or genius or deserving of a subforum, but this guy knows how to write good idm tracks. he plays with dynamics very well

    also, non-idm:

explosions in the sky - 5 piece, drum, bass, 3 guitars - these guys are not very technical at all, in fact a lot of their lines remind me of simple idm synth lines, but i have never ever seen any band so good at controlling dynamics.

i don't think any of the bands you described are in any way similar to autechre, but i freakin' love caribou, tortoise and explosions in the sky.

ooh, nice tape loop setup. are you running a keyboard through that vox amp? if so that's excellent. also, what are those two red pianos? just toys? they look interesting.

I've run some synths through the Vox, sounds nice! Haven't recorded anything from it yet. Need to get a decent amp mic first.

The two pianos are toy pianos yea, nice wee bell sounds.

get an sm57! they're great for amps.

  12. i know some people with mountains of kit and they utilise every piece to its fullest... and others who approach it more from a collector's stance rather than a composing/musical one.

i guess i'm kinda in between those two, at least with my guitars. i do collect them, but they all sound quite different to each other.

  13. behringer virtualizer pro

    behringer rv-600 guitar pedal

both very cheap, and very awesome. especially the virtualizer. very good for super ambient stuff, and they also have great spring reverb emulators.
