Just wanted to post a brief update here/plug for Oddsound. Oli over there spent the last few days helping me troubleshoot to get this working with Live 10 and, after a lot of back and forth, I'm up and running! I really can't say enough good things about how patient, kind, helpful, and willing he was to help me work this out (a bit of issue w/ the way the Max4live was calling to the midi plugin). Extremely excited to start digging in on some music making with this - it really does make it super easy to just tune a scale your own whims and instantly apply it across instruments.

It's the tits. Also, one thing that he passed along that might be of use to people here: https://www.midimood.com/product/pluchain/ This allows you to combine a midi device and a midi VST into one device - this is super handy in Live, because it disallows two midi devices on one track. So, for example, if you wanted to have Scaler + Reaktor in one track (rather than routing midi between tracks), this will do the trick.

    Happy music making all!

Can you automate the individual tuning of the notes without needing to do it manually if you wanna change a note? Like if you wanna change a key using it instead of midi.

wow. Imagine if you felt you had to create an organization to "preserve your legacy". If you have to do that, you either have no legacy, or you have a shit legacy.

It's crazy how his supporters don't see him as the insanely insecure man he is.

I wonder how much this "collab" netted him...

That's a bit pessimistic. He has been talking about Microtuning for years and years and has voiced his displeasure for the lack of microtuning pretty much everywhere. Richard doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would waste his time on something he doesn't care about in itself.

That’s so dark and kinda offensive joyrex. Why would you assume he’s made anything from this? Ik you’re a fan so maybe your just being funny, no disrespect meant.
Didn’t he say he made zero from similar endeavors?

yeah need to wait and find out more. I have a feeling that in this case he has been very involved considering it is something important to him. Also, he is probably making money from it, but good ideas are supposed to make money yeah?

Unless it was a dream. Lord Ivan asked Lord Richard if he would ever release an album as next level as Drukqs. To which Lord Richard replied

    YES!

Make of it what you will. Maybe it was a dream...

I mean, no artist wants their "greatest success" to be behind them however they define that. Imagine if he just said "Nah". Lol

goddamnit is gonna be announced at midnight and I'm gonna miss the hype cuz I have to sleep isn't it

When you wake up, the site will be back up after crashing due to too many people wanting to see something game changing. All of us will be here for hours waiting to get on the website.

And you will get to sleep. We will eventually have to sleep, so you will get the website all to yourself.

  6. Good thing he announced this a few days before launching it, and not a few months.

Said this in the other thread but I don't think AFX has ever said any of his music releases or any kind of media surrounding them was game changing. Which leads me to believe it is not that.

  7. I don't think that AFX has referred to any music ever as 'game changing', or any type of media on top of that. That's all I really am interested in, so it's probably not that.

All this other stuff about crypto-what-have-yous aren't interesting. Not saying he isn't onto something, whatever it is. It's just that it isn't interesting really.

Edit: btw MIX I wasn't referring to your post. I really do hope it is something that I enjoy.

  8. I don't agree. It's more like he just did his version of it.

I love aphex as much as the next guy here but if you really think this then maybe it's time to take a break from Aphex and listen to other artists who have their own unique sound that Aphex probably wouldn't be able to emulate without sounding like himself in some way.

  10. Most of the glitching in this track, and especially the first 30 seconds, was made using FM on a modular Eurorack that i used to have access to. I really wish I wrote down what I did because I have tried to re-create it with digital modular plugins, and while I often get awesome sounds, it isn't what I got before.

I only remember what i primarily used. Lots of semi-random panning and enough modulation in each of the 'plops' to make it sound like it's alive or something I may have sampled in a swamp or something. lol.

I describe how I did it in the description of the track. The thing about modular synths is that you can spend a million hours making awesome sounds, but harnessing said sounds is another thing entirely. So it was a very good workflow to spend a lot of time making the awesome sounds, and then being forced to bring them back to my DAW and make a track with them.

  11. Digging a lot of the tracks here. It would be nice to have some kind of auto follow for all WATMM members on soundcloud so you don't have to go digging.

Listening back I had some really fueled ideas in a couple of tracks.. I wish I had that same energy still.

I can't speak for you, but for me, when I have a ton of energy tracks sound a lot better than they actually are. So I end up working on lots of tracks that I think are good in the moment only to later realize they are passable or just plain bad.

So I try to work on music with a level head, and when I am bouncing off the walls on occasion I know it's probably a waste of time to work on composition tracks.

That said it's never a waste of time to work on sound design and making lots of cool sounds that can be used in tracks. I usually translate that energy into putting 30 FX on top of each other, lol

random thought - I can't believe this thread made it 5 years without getting locked or having massive amounts of posts deleted. if this discussion had occurred anywhere else online, it would have lasted maybe 2 minutes without a trumpo torpedoing in.

how can we replicate this bastion of civility that exists within these hallowed halls? how can we make the world more like us is what everyone should be asking themselves here.

Get everyone into very niche and esoteric music, of which 95% of the time left wing types are into.

i don't make music but i really wish i did and that stresses me out.

i have a mental block about learning certain things and learning how to use a DAW is one of them. which is stupid since youtube tutorials and dedicated forums are only 1 click away but the problem comes from my head really.

the funny thing is i learnt quite a bit about harmony these last years, which is a valuable skill to make music. but there's a difference between knowing how to write music and knowing how to produce it. i really should learn music production. what am i waiting for goddamnit

You should try to push yourself past the learning stage. There are also some simpler DAWs out there with the more advanced stuff kinda hidden in menus. Maybe just google DAWs that would be quick to learn.

  14. The only time it's ever caused any stress is when my DAW has A MILLION things in the timeline. So while I initially work on it everything is fine. But then I step away and come back weeks or months later, depending on my mood I may just say "uhhh finish that later" It isn't typical stress that makes me feel bad or whatever, it's just this feeling that I have to keep many things in mind while working on a project.

I think the mild stress is just from trying to keep things straight in my mind. In a way you're juggling your knowledge of everything that is connected to everything. Then when in my DAW I get a million automation clips going every which way, it can be over-load on the brain if I am not in that 'flow' state.
