  1. I've got World as Will... on my bookshelf I just haven't gotten around to it :P

I've read a lot of Wittgenstein and a little bit of Nietzsche and I figure since Nietzsche talked a lot of shit about Kant then it would be the same with Schopenhauer lol. But then again Nietzsche from mid period onward talked a lot of shit about Schopenhauer....Wittgenstein too.

    I don't read enough >.>

I can at the very least say that Wittgenstein would hate Autechre because he said music ended with Brahms and the rest is just "machinery" or something lol. Autechre is pure machine

I haven't even watched or heard the Collapse single yet, letalone the leak!

did you hear his set at day for night?

I was there and I'm aware the 'Houston Track' is this track, though I never listened to the bootleg much. In the past I have just rinsed these prerelease singles and they just end up sticking out in an uncomfortable way for me when I get around to hearing them in context of the full LP/EP. Been trying to avoid that since.

yah ive been avoiding watching the vid too much, same

Me: do u fancy afx twin?

Normies: yeah I love the afx twins!

same people who assemble a playlist consisting of Windowlicker, BoC's peacock tail and Autechre's VLetrmx21. "I listen to IDMZ" starter pack

Those are some really good tracks. Nice starter pack!

... you just think you're above it probably because you feel alienated by it culturally...

Disagree. One of the key tenets (IMHO of course) is that good music transcends class, race, ethnicity, culture, gender, etc. It's one of the main reasons I've always been drawn to electronic music.

Making an argument that you don't like footwork because you "don't get it culturally", to someone that actually appreciates just straight up GOOD music, is bogus.

    huuurr.. duurrrr

i believe i listen to music in a vacuum lol. im the worlds biggest retard

    huh? =/

Sorry is that directed at me? I'm not sure I understand.

sorry im trying to start shit right before I go to bed for some reason

to be a bit more civil, "good" music doesn't ignore class or other surroundings, that stuff goes into it. I mean the kind of music you enjoy is greatly influenced by where you live, what you're surrounded by, how you were brought up, all that stuff influences how you perceive and interpret music and its quality. even more significant is that music is influenced by what came before it, the surroundings and circumstances in which it was made, etc. it has to be, music doesn't come out of the ether irrespective of everything else.

I'm not trying to say that all criticism is irrelevant, but what I'm trying to say here is that you might be missing a cultural piece of the puzzle that would allow you to appreciate whatever genre people are talking about in this thread (ive never heard of it). maybe you could come to appreciate it, or maybe not, who really cares, maybe in the end you just don't like that kind of music. but it's a mistaken assumption to believe that there's some essential quality of GOOD that goes into all good music. this goes for all media too.

This I understand to an extent, thank you. Relatability and context is important for sure, none of this is objective.

Can you think of a cultural background you could come from where you understand and appreciate Justin Bieber? Like actually appreciate it as an art? (And I'm not trying to draw a parallel between that and other musics, sorry). ;o

if you want to draw criticism against Justin Bieber, you need to compare his music to his contemporaries. Like the more acquainted with modern pop music you are, the more valuable your opinion is regarding the quality of his music, you know what I'm saying? if you don't like modern pop (I sure as hell don't) then of course you're going to hate whatever garbage he releases. but the people who do enjoy modern pop (e.g. mostly young girls probably) will be able to make a more useful assessment.

  7. The pads in this track are so nice, there are 5 distinct pad sounds.. I think... . There's the super gooey pads drenched in chorus/lesie, the super bendy chords, the detuned saws that come in during the breakdown, the nice chimes and the end The detuned saws panned slightly left. One of my favorite parts of the track is all the detail going on in the poly synths in the high frequency ranges, t. I also love the effect that is on the high-hats that sounds like a modulated chorus that gives it a sort of tasty chewyness to them. Theres also a large variety of bass sounds that are quite awesome, a bunch of them come in at the end of the track!!! The end of the track wasn't my favorite at first because the melody sounded just a bit generic to me, but it has grown on me just from the amount of detail of different sounds coming together. Also that point at 4:10 where the delay times hit, that sounds pretty sex

yah. Aphex Twin is pretty good at pads, I'll give him that.
