Here's my dream from last night: Cheetah's first 4 tracks get released on Bleep with a snippet of a Squarepusher track (that Rome track) (it is secretly in the file you download). I remember being super happy in that dream.

Maybe the cheetah cassette is just unreleased squarepusher trax

This is the next innovative step everyone's been waiting for Richard to take

  3. Came here just to say:

    FOLDFREE CASUAL

Literally almost crashed my car listening to this. Absolutely beautiful.

I love it too my man, but please, drive safe.

  4. I found exai to be their least accessible LP, but I came to it after a few years of not really listening to any new electronic music

E: save for aphex and battles

I remember downloading untilted as it leaked in on soulseek, all hot and anticipating what they would deliver in the watmm slsk chatroom...and the start of LCC had me think it was a fake, sounded like someone trying to do an autechre track on FL but then that boomy sound came in and then I knew it was the Auteshre.

Wait what specifically is the boomy sound?

lol yes azatoth, that was the fake leak. it's time to hear the original

    Lol

  6. I've always taken LP to mean "the best 30+ min selection of music I can give you from the past 1+ years", this of course breaks down for really really prolific artists

I'm probably the only person on WATMM that feels this way, but the AE live stuff is more for me. I'm enjoying tracks off the Elseq1-5 releases but overall the live stuff is more for me.

It's more accessible I guess. I find it difficult to get into really long sporadic tracks, that's all. Not slagging the releases, there are some gems on here for sure.

Maybe over time I'll change my mind.

    #same

I said as much in an live set from the Oversteps tour thread last night. I'm feeling the live sets the past 5-6 years more than I am the 'proper' releases (Exai, L-Event, elseq) and though all of the releases have some amazing tracks, overall they're sort of hit and miss for the most part.

Exai was my introduction to autechre. It was immediately one of the strangest but best things I'd ever heard. Still is.

untilted was my introduction to autechre. I was like, 'man this is the most pretentious unlistenable bullshit I've ever heard' and now it's my fav by them lol

Won't listen to any samples, but the SAW3 references in here make me want to fast forward time

The samples sounded nothing like any SAW3 stuff. More of the same as in Syro.

yeah, the track that was referred as saw3 sounded to my ears like an extended Playstation audio logo.

that sounds like the best track ever!

I'm in the same train of not being able to get too excited no more, TH left a mark on me and there is just too much music to be heard

    th...?
    Tomorrow 's harvest ?

I thought that but what does that have to do with Aphex Twin?

  10. Basically I want to say it's disingenuous to consider autechre's latest output "lacking melody", but on the other hand, I feel the need to qualify what I'm talking about in reference to the melody in an autechre track in a way that I don't with more traditional music, or even other electronic music. I feel like I'm using the word differently, which gives it a different meaning.

it doesn't really matter in the end, because I like autechre so i listen to them, but there's a reason

  11. an incomplete thought: melody is an expedient to effect emotion in a listener, kinda like the plot in a movie, right? so melody doesn't seem to be absolutely necessary for a piece of music to be effective, at least not the kind of tacked-down, immediately obvious melody that seems to be missing from much of elseq 1-5, as long as the music can be compelling in some other way (in rhythm, atmosphere, etc). there's glimmers of melody in each track, to be sure (latter half of 13x0 step as a prime example of what I mean here), but it's very elusive, kind of slipping in and out, and perhaps not the central focus.
