I see, experts in delusion. Anyway I was commenting on the certain incident. Again, you can't know what exactly happened there (there was a fight). If this movie depicts it as paranoidal murder or whatever, it's just predictable slander for Varg's having "wrong" views.

You may want to look into a fuckin' mirror for that "experts on delusion" line.

    1. How do you know what is and is not slander in this situation while you simultaneously confirm you don't know specifics?

    2. Why the scare quotes about "wrong"?

Lords of Chaos - entertaining, but totally whitewashed story of Mayhem, with not a Scandinavian accent in sight. The gore effects were good, like a low budget horror flick, but it's disappointing Varg only served 15 years for viciously hacking his bandmate to death for no reason based in reality. Hammy dialogue at the end too, like "see? now I'm dead"

Jonas Akerlund making a film about Mayhem is somehow even more repulsive than listening to Mayhem. Garbage filmmaker.

If I had unlimited funds I would definitely waste some of it polychaining 16 Bass Station Racks, though (or 8, I forget what the limit for polychaining them is).

A 16-voice chord all on one 303 filter sweep. Prog acid.

  4. Thanks for the recommendations! The Cirklon will eventually be a mid-life crisis purchase, haha.

Update on this for anyone curious:

Thinking about it a bit more, I don't need any MIDI note sequencing at all. Just the ability for a device to send CC/PC modulation. The Mutable Instruments MIDIpal comes very close but doesn't seems to do LFO's for PC's (which is critical for my needs).

The iOS app Rozeta can LFO CC's but doesn't do so currently for PC's. That developer is responsive and very nice. I have submitted a feature request for the LFO app to control Program Changes. Keeping my fingers crossed!

  5. Hello

Currently using a Critter & Guitari Eyesy, it's wonderful. Patch changing via-receiving MIDI Program Changes opens it up a lot. LFO's to control parameters opens it even further. Currently I'm using a Squarp Pyramid to achieve that and while its wonderful, its way too powerful for it and I'd rather use it elsewhere. So, I am looking for a hardware MIDI controller that matches as many of this list as possible:

    1. Small (like a Shruthi)

    2. Can create MIDI LFO's that control either CC's or PC's

    3. Standalone. No Eurorack for this (want it to be more portable and the rest of the video setup isn't Eurorack either).

    4. Hopefully cheap

I was looking at the Matthews Effects Futurist but it doesn't appear to generate MIDI LFO's.

    Any recommendations appreciated, thanks!

Cléo de 5 à 7 and La Pointe Courte are nice.

You beat me to it on these! I dunno why I had forgotten Agnes Varda. Literally any of her films in France would be great recommendations. These 2 quoted are a great start.

edit:  Now my memory's coming back. Also suggest Alain Guiraudie's "Stranger By the Lake" if you're not prudish.

  7. Amour was directed by a German auteur though, with a French cast. Not sure I'd recommend it for the goal of learning about French culture. For a non-French filmmaker's view on France, I recommend Ousmane Sembene's "Black Girl", maybe some late Kieslowski or even Rossellini's "Blaise Pascal".

Trying to think of "slower paced" French films and not a ton are coming to mind. Robert Bresson films may feel more languid but they're usually short and rather briskly paced.

On the other hand, most people would see Jacques Rivette's Out 1 and consider it chaotic, however I'd def. call that film slow-paced (due to length and Rivette's insistence on keeping you in uncomfortable places for protracted periods of time).
