  1. I'm a genre butterfly. Usually very melodic. I have a go at IDM | breaks | ALT-POP | ambient | D&B/jungle. I gave up on getting any sort of label exposure long ago.

I played in a band called Jilk for a long time. That stuff is widely available online.

Ah mate it bothered me loads, I was a pretty big fan up to that point and it killed that stone dead, and I reckon I've been a bit iffy about planet mu in general ever since.

I personally #cancelled him long before cancellations were popular.

Oh bro! I feel bad about that. I think his reputation preceded him. And I am not totally without blame. I was a facetious prick at that time too.

Hey, yep I was there, In fact I remembered the v snares incident and brought it up on here recently, so that's a really weird coincidence.

Did you play the trombone or was that someone else??

You've got a good memory! Yeah, I'm the trombone guy.

The Snares incident didn't really bother me any more at the time than it does now. I've never been one to take much offense. ?

My solo stuff went on the back-burner for a few years as I got involved with playing in bands.

What you're thinking of is a constitutional monarchy.

If you think Democracy has nothing to do with Socialism then you need to do some reading, my friend.

We risk going in circles of petty dispute. I've presented my points. They've been well-received by others. I'm going to end this discussion now.

"Socialist Dictatorship" is like saying I grew up in a "Democratic Monarchy."

Democratic Monarchy ...like the UK, Netherlands, Spain, Denmark....?

Marxism is an entirely undemocratic ideology.

So long as capitalism exists, people will suffer. Civil dialogue as opposed to radical action is what causes 25,000 people worldside to die from hunger every day. It's easy for us first-worlders to want to take our time. But tell a child soldier or a child worker to wait for a flawless alternative and see how happy their reaction will be.

Marxism is an attractive idea to teenagers who think they're overflowing with compassion for every living being, but sadly they don't have enough experience of the nature of the human.

They are people who believe Hollywood movies display the same calibre of political interrogation as academic literature.

They see things in binaries; people think like them, or people are evil and selfish. There's no mid-ground. They refuse to engage in dialogue, because they view independent thought and ideas that stray from the ideology as harmful.

They believe people that don't share their view are wilfully hateful. They 'other' groups of people.

Marxism is for people who think that in life there is either good or evil, right or wrong, equal or unequal. They fail to see nuances; the greys in life.

They fail to see the authoritarianism and totalitarianism of their own approach. They believe that their violence and oppression is all for the greater good.

Marxism is a totalitarian ideal that punishes dissent. Yet it believes it's the great equaliser. It gives total power to those who control the system, but calls its critics oppressors.

    Signed,

Someone who grew up in a militarised socialist dictatorship.

A few years ago I started using DxO a little more than Lightroom, but just the other day I noticed that the split tone controls in LR were upgraded to color grading controls like you have in video editing environments, and they seem really cool.

Oh, I don't know anything about DxO. I'm a bit of a software loyalist. Once I've got the hang of one software, I'm slow to adopt any other. But I'll take a look at it. See if I can understand how it differs.

t does make me wonder what socializing irl will be like post-covid however. Not being on social media in 2020 meant pretty much losing contact with everyone I had known irl - which didn't particularly bother me much. I was just about done with the circles I had been running in, anyway. I would like to build new circles eventually, however, and that's gonna pretty much be a "from the ground up" project

Yeah, I hear you. I moved from the UK to France last year. I've already made that decision that I was gonna cut out a load of unnecessary friendships. I'm more concerned with connecting more with my new local community, and keeping in better touch (by phone) with long-held friends, rather than simply doing a "like" on their posts.

  11. I envy you. I'd like to delete my social media. But there's too many people I want to remain connected to around the world that aren't close enough relationships to maintain by email.

I've all but stopped using it to try to promote my music. New music I'm working on will be sent to labels (I've not sent demos in years) the old fashioned way, with no online presence.

I'm not paranoid about social media companies knowing what they do about me; my life is not that interesting.

Recently, I've brutally stripped facebook friendships. Was at 650 "friends". Happily now down to around 200.

I've unfollowed all pages and groups so they don't clog up my feed.

I use twitter, but only for following the news and getting philosophical or political insights I wouldn't get elsewhere.

  12. I have one thing to say on the topic of Marxism - and politics in general.

Socialism on its own doesn't work.

Capitalism on its own doesn't work.

A successful state is one that balances the two.

A state where people are free to create business & trade, but also ensures rights for workers, curbs monopolies & crates fair & attainable opportunities for all.

Politics is not an either/or, binary, right/wrong exercise. The left tempers the right, and vice versa.

The most important thing in politics is preserving civil dialogue between parties with differing ideas.
