I'm not too far from Brive. I don't think I've interacted with varg vikernes yet. I'll do a snoop. Thanks! If you're ever in the area again, give us a shout.
Just googled Varg. Didn't realise he was a musician. First thing I found was a french report about his arrest. lordy.
Poor guy.Edit: having just read the Wiki page on him, I think I'm probably good not reaching out. Uh, lots of drama there.

.. Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi...
You're a typical American, in that you place America at the centre of your world. You believe America is the most powerful, capitalist, exploitive country on the planet. You have digested American propaganda that "America is no.1" and "The greatest country on earth".
If you're going to be so fiercely anti-capitalist, you need to direct that anger at all capitalist exploitation, whether they be white Western, or Islamic, or Jewish, or African or Asian.
You conflate life of a person living in Aleppo with another in Riyadh 2000km away. You conflate capitalism with the West. You infantalise non-white Western people, insisting that they are all noble, oppressed, helpless peoples, at the mercy of American imperialists.
Let this video be a starting point to having a more informed idea about the realities of other places and the lives of others.
You can threaten me with accusations of racism as much as you like. It doesn't affect me because I know I'm far more compassionate, informed, well-travelled, and culturally-sensitive than you will likely ever be.

You do know that as well as there being poor Muslims living in wartorn countries, there are also rich Muslims living in non war torn countries?
You conflate one instance of something you know about a race or religion and apply that narrative to all people of said race or religion.
Do you have any idea how large an area the middle East is? How many countries there are? How diverse their cultures and histories are?
Without looking at a map, can you name 5 Middle Eastern countries? I don't need you to respond to me; I just need you to ask yourself that question.
You're an essentialist, dude. You believe peoples are monolithic groups, based upon arbitrary characteristics.
You make huge generalisations about hugely nuanced and complicated issues, exposing your willful ignorance about pretty much everything.
This is not a compassionate stance. It's more prejudiced than anything else.
I'm not in a patient mood today. You're a dumbass.

am i really reading this? did you just write that muslims are not being treated horribly by the US military in the middle east, and the real victims in the region are america consumers in dubai or wherever this is, and migrant workers?
migrant workers, completely agreed. american consumers, not so much. your dismissal of the plight of muslims in the middle east is truly disgusting. its of course not just muslims being harmed by western imperialism and CIA funded terrorist groups, but your selection for the other groups being harmed is pretty suspect. i oppose saudi arabia as much as anyone and am not happy with their migrant "workers" (slaves) situations
You have so so little understanding of the world dude. Please stop trying to pretend you know anything about international affairs or politics. You show yourself to be more ignorant with each new post.

I feel like we're about 6 months away from black Americans walking around with warpaint on their faces, repeating "oonga boonga choonga" in the belief that they're speaking "African" to each other.
It's embarrassing, America. Stop.

"African culture," really? Africa is a continent with 54 countries, >2000 languages, > 3000 ethnic groups spread across diverse, dynamic cultures. Ever wondered why South Africa alone is called the "Rainbow Nation?" Africa & it's people is not a monolith. Whoever advised this?"

I've got friends who are producers from Egypt, Pakistan, India, Myanmar, Japan... none of them have expressed feelings of being oppressed (or even inhibited) by their setups.

A short film from the Myanmar Wathann Film Fest 2020. Films like this could not be made anymore since the military coup on Feb 1st this year. Life has come to a halt in Myanmar. The only focus on everyone's mind is surviving and getting rid of the military junta. Even former Miss World contestants have left home to join resistance armies.
We've all seen horrendous violence coming out of Myanmar in recent months. This film presents a different view of the country. I'm praying (in a fully secular fashion) that the revolution succeeds soon, so people can return to their lives.

Found this comprehensive piece about microtonality in music production that manages to avoid accusatory, "upholding white-supremacy" style rhetoric.

I've not posted any Japanese music, 'cos Japanese artists deserve a post (if not a whole thread) of their own.

Hate the overuse of the notion of "decolonisation", but welcome software with more variation of tuning systems.

I mean it looks quite beautiful, how are you integrating ? Did u guys learn french before going there ? I have always heard france is quite stubborn about speaking other languages besides french. How are you guys experiencing that is that just a dumb stereotype?
I did french at school from age 11-17. I wasn't a model student, but I retained the basics. My bf is french but speaks English pretty well. We have Google translate when we need it. We do conjugation in bed. (Saucy).
Other people are very patient, and appreciate that I'm making the effort. I've met other anglophones living in France who don't try to learn. I can't imagine that easy for them.
Cos of covid, I've not been able to launch my bizness. But I feel confident that when I do, my language is now passable.
I know a lot of people now through my bf.

Spicy is a word for it. Myanmar was in the grips of dictatorship at the time I lived there as a kid 80s/90s. I've experienced that before. This current revolution feels very different to the uprisings of 1988 or 2007. This time, the Tatmadaw will be toppled for good. No negotiation; no "transitional gov". Hopefully with the fewest lives lost. A Federal Army is being trained to fight against the junta as we speak. Ethnic armed groups have already weakened the junta, and there's daily stories of defectors.
Myanmar will be safe the moment the Tatmadaw are removed; I know this.
This is Tatmadaw propaganda vs the Kachin Independence Army...

Metal completely passed me by, so I'd never heard of him. I'm all for meeting people different to me but don't think our worldviews align, to be honest. He seems very attached to his visual aesthetic aligning with his political and social views, and music style. Whereas I'm really not into the idea of identity being inextricable linked to symbology or ideology.
