Does someone here know if the two Lisbon sets were different?

From the description above, it sounds like they reversed the arc, because the first one had pretty much escalating intensity from beginning to end – not sure about the actual material being played though.

  2. Talking about Lisbon A here, it would be hard to ask for a better first time seeing them, that amalgamation of dance styles being twisted and mangled in ever unexpected ways, but still making you unable to sit still – they definitely didn’t let the auditorium context get in the way of smashing everyone’s face in with the most satisfying beats.

Speaking of faces, given it was a Portugal debut there was also this kind of communal feeling in seeing so many familiar ones that I got to know from this kind of music over the years, all of them clearly waiting a long time for this and with a big smile by the end of it. Can’t wait for the recording!

  3. This is too fucking sad. Been a fan of most stuff since Negative Fascination and always admired the consistency in and around the music. Plus, he was an incredible DJ, blew my mind twice – I was lucky to be on the lineup of the last one, though some damned delays didn't allow more than a few minutes with him, you could tell he was an enchanting person. Huge loss.

is there any database with all the gigs he played since like, forever? I saw him in Portugal back in around 2003? wanted to know for sure the date... and remotely possibly find some info or a flyer from the gig...

    quite impossible, right @Joyrex?

I found this Drive file earlier today in the forum. Do you mean Numero festival in 2000?

Why are the crowd in that half hour vid of the Portugal show all just standing still, very strange carry-on, he's playing belters, one woman giving the occasional nod of approval

I guess you could say this of many festivals where Richard plays, since they need to have a certain financial capability, but this Kalorama thing is such an incoherent, badly organized, shitty capitalist theme park, that this is what you would expect from most of the crowd – either that or run for their lives, which a lot of people did too. After a delayed start because of issues with the cube visuals, at some point during the set I got the impression that they crashed and the stage lights acted alone as backup for like 10 minutes. It was also around that time that we got (in response, as I like to think of it) a glorious noise section.

Anyway, all I can say is that it was another Aphex Twin show that felt to me like the peak electronic music experience, but Vordhosbn... wow.

  6. The ever-prolific Carl Finlow will be dropping a 3x12" album not even 6 months after the great Plasmoids 2LP.

Vinyl seems to have been pushed to mid-July but you can already stream it:

Silicon Scally, the alias of electronic music producer Carl Finlow, released his critically acclaimed album 'Mr Machine' in 2002 on SCSI-AV. The album was a masterful blend of electro and sci-fi soundscapes, showcasing Finlow's unique style and production prowess, which took the listener on a journey through a futuristic world of machines and technology. It ranks as one of the finest electro records of the early noughties.

Fast-forward to 2023 and Sync 24's Cultivated Electronics label is proud to present 'Mr Machine PT 2'. Like its predecessor, the new album is filled with intricate synth melodies, driving rhythms, and pulsating basslines, all perfectly balanced to create an immersive listening experience.

'Mr Machine PT 2' once again showcases Finlow's ability to not only create relentless beats for the dancefloor but also dynamic soundscapes that transport the listener to another world. Created using a mixture of both old analog gear and very modern plugins, both albums were written with a very strong emphasis on the machine aesthetic, reflecting the cutting edge of what was available at their respective times. Futuristic and timeless.

The album will be released on triple-pack vinyl and digitally.

It was amazing he played Mt Saint michel mix+St. michaels mount, That outro is one of the most beautiful thing ever

But what I hear from all the sets I think the one from Stockholm was the best so far

Did I get it right that it was the last track? Damn, I would’ve crumbled apart right there.

  8. I would name Swans as one of my favorite bands in any given day (in particular that 87-95 period), but admittedly I don't listen to much non-electronic music anymore, so I lost track of their records after To Be Kind – I also saw them for the first time in that year, it was a thing of noisy beauty but also made me think this reformation era is really all about the live setting.

So in the current tour they came back to my city and I had little doubts about going, even if unprepared... and again, it was worth every cent. It's an interesting lineup, the current one: no electric guitars anymore, but the bass is louder than ever, and there's more lap guitar and mellotron layers, so I felt a more pronounced southern gothic vibe along those walls of sound. Can't go wrong with that.
