  2. thats fucking awesome....such simple ideas make such great music

OK, I'm not looking to be a copyist or anything but I stumbled onto something fun. Aphex only wishes the Analord binder could compare to this 3LP "Isle Of The Dead" by Rachmaninoff I found at a thrift store for $0.25. The records must be pressed lead; literally the heaviest 33 RPM discs I've ever held in my life. It's built just like a book with a bound spine and cardboard sheathes for the records. It was released in the 60's and the records and binders are in absolutely horrible condition...maybe the worst shape I've ever seen records in that could still be played.

I used an old sacrificial stylus to encode them digitally just for the novelty of it. I revisited it tonight and now that I know Nah und Fern front to back, I was shocked by how much the beginning of the third movement sounded very Gas(sy) I selected out the intro and crafted a reverbed kick drum reminiscent of the Gas series to add. Except for the kick, the sample is completely untouched--everything you hear is the sum total of artifacts from a 45 year old trashed record. It's truncated for looping so Choose Your Own Gas

  3. man, this thread makes me miss my parents' dogs at home.

one is on her way out, but shes a big jolly goofball and always flips her shit whenever I come visit.

the other one is getting fat, and stuck up as all hell...still cant help but love her...shes getting old too.

and then the third one is a mix of gold retriever and something else..he was the runt of the littler and was apparently abandoned by his mum...we found him on the side of the road and cleaned him up...guy is adorable with his little autisms or whatnot

-always has to walk in a circle. always. even if its a long long walk, he has to loop around to close the circle.

-is petrified of walking on wooden floors

-chases birds he sees overhead WELL after they have gone

Ill never forget one incident in which he put a frog in his mouth and then spit it out...the frog was fine. The dog then proceeded to lick it as if to say, "Oh shit man, I didnt know you were alive! Here, lemme wipe all this spit off you.."

  4. i honestly havent listened to much of Plastikman stuff, save for Musik

the DE9 series is fucking massively awesome however...but 200 bucks for this??? i dunno....i guess ill get some mp3s and see what i think from there.

whats a good place to start?

also, is the System 7 Alpha Wave remix considered Hawtin or Plastikman? because thats a jam.

  5. im a really big sucker for solo piano stuff especiall by Bartok, Stravinsky or Chopin. The former two are more challenging/difficult classical composers, but for instance Bartok's hungarian folk songs are beautiful and would appeal to even the most vanilla of music fans.

if we're allowed to recommend any classical musician, i'd probably say go check out some of John william's stuff outside of the context of the movies they are in like ET, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom, Empire Strikes back. Some of the best modern classical stuff ever made next to Jerry Goldsmith

so many people laugh when i suggest john williams...but i really love the jurassic park sndtrk...that was him right?

dennis nedry's theme when hes stealing the embryos is awesome.

  6. about halfway into Slavoj Zisek's "Living in the End Times".....the guy is brilliant and an awesomely entertaining speaker, but this book is nothing but name-dropping it seems....i really want the man to elaborate more on his own ideas, not Lacan.

  7. I thought Seinfeld was like Arrested Development, universally respected by all.

Without owning a single DVD I know almost every single episode line for line... they just play it 9483902 times a day on TV.

Sid Farkus, he's the best in the business.

Yeah, i just think a lot of people rag on Seinfeld because they weren't of age when it was big, and the over-syndication sorta irks even me, but the show is complete genius. period.

  8. i mean, over half of the episodes are absolute classics.

The Chinese Restaurant, the one with the oil bladder, Kramer selling used suits, The Bro, Jerry's parents moving, any episode dealing with George and Susan, etc etc

could go on and on and on

i think in retrospect its easy for people to poo-poo it without realizing how insanely popular and arguably revolutionary it was in the sitcom world.

  9. you can parodize Jerry's nasally annoying voice, or the predictability towards the end of the series, but there is no doubt, anyone that knows anything about comedy knows that Seinfeld is funny.
