Yeah the Harvard Corporation. I think it might be the oldest corporation in America.

it's so cartoon-villain-like something from a bond movie or smthng

sorry, obviously i'm ignorant about this, but it seems weird to have a prestigious university, have an oversight board that is secretive. it's not very democratic, and leaves a funny taste to the work 'liberty'.

writing stuff that frustrate me on this job helps me stressing things out… letting everything out into words does magic for it. even if I don't confront the people in question. today I was feeling quite anxious and shaky but after writing those things I felt an enormous relieve. mainly because when I confront people I end up losing my train of thought and my lid blows off… drops mic... 🎤

Man, am i about to blow my lid right off into the orbit. Ffs these retarded americans, i don't want to sound prejudiced, but their stupidity seems to be exponentially proportional to their confidence. The ideas these people come up with make no sense whatsoever, and the VP is the most incompetent micro-managing interfering asshole imaginable (he is fucking color blind and he lectures me on color theory, i'm not joking), and his side-kick is an ex-playboy, lip-inflated, passive-aggressive hen, bossing around like she's holding the god himself by his balls. I'd love to see them both digging trenches with a rusty shovel so they can experience working just for once in their lives. How these people become vice presidents in a company is beyond any reasonable comprehension and it makes me depressed to think that the entire world is run by such philistine morons. No wonder everything is going to shit.

Thank you for your time, and excuse my frustration.

so many weird quirks that try to be edgy and reinvent stuff
i can't stand the all-controls-are-on-touch-screen, even for opening the fucking glove box for pete's sake, wtf?!
    and build quality looks terrible

the takeaway here should be is that you can't trust anything the Russians say about the war in Ukraine.

the west had proven well in the past that their official narratives concerning their involvement in any conflict in the world was also swayed into propaganda, or constructing reasons (and public opinion) to invade foreign nations. I don't see any difference between the two, to be honest. Can you trust anything that western coalition has to say about both Iraqi invasions and Afghanistan, for instance?

I think we can't trust any official narratives for that matter, and that is some heavy shit. Well, at least I don't. I can only, to some extent, trust people that have studied related subjects, been there, studied history of the involved regions, etc.

oof. yeah.. the plywood underneath is when it gets extra expensive. but if you're lucky they only have to replace sections of the plywood and not the whole thing??? fingers crossed. roofs.. what a pain in the ass. i don't have a modular synth anymore but i do have a new roof.

i think i'm past the option to replace only bad sections if i think long-term. the way this roof was built was wrong from the start. at that time my father opted for this type of roof, but it was still a novelty in our country so no one really knew how to tile it properly. they nailed the tiles directly onto the plywood below instead of making another water-proof layer in-between. where i'm at is that i hope the main support beams are still ok, or i'll have to replace those as well. so, yeah, i just want to replace the whole thing and put clay tiles on instead. something to work for the next 30 years with no problems (with proper maintenance, of course).

right? sometimes you have to make sacrifices that redefine your priorities in the big picture 😉

what's wrong w/it? is it leaking?

it's 35+ years old and it shows with random leaks in the attic. they are minor, but when there's heavy rain for several days (like the last two summers), the water flow increases in random places (probably being funnelled around between and below the tiling). it's tegola canadese type of roof, and in some places moss started to grow. it's also past its resilience(?) warranty, which is about 25-30 years. i went up last summer to examine the tiles and fix anything (bought some spares), but i found out i can't just hammer the nails into a mushy wood underneath. that patch was particularly in bad condition.

now i wonder if i'm able to save up enough money until next august, 'cause, no sir, i ain't takin any of your loans

  7. am i the only one thinking how all these local conflicts will drag on and on (tying up the western forces and resources), then a few more will spawn (since this shit seems to be trending), then china will invade taiwan and the next thing you know there's gonna be a third wolrd war

Awesome! It is indeed wonderful. And don't worry, that math here isn't really that complex and something with a basic tutorial on the matter would do.

I scanned through the book yesterday and I already found some very insightful passages and chapters. The math is just enough to take it seriously and delve into it.

I would also recommend James Gleick's book "Chaos", one of the only non-fiction books I enjoyed enough to read more than once

Great! Thanks for the recommendation. I guess this winter is going to be chaos themed.

  9. sometimes i'm afraid to open certain threads or spoilers on a work computer. because when i do, and i get these sketchy images and posts i just hope that HR is oblivious of the company i keep

can we have a thread about this, please?

Definitely. If you're interested in how mathematics can model our reality, but knowing there are actual limits to it and our understanding of the world philosophically, then this is a Beautiful work. I bought it physical, but you can take it from here digitally: https://animanoir.notion.site/The-Computational-Beauty-of-Nature-Computer-Explorations-of-Fractals-Chaos-Complex-systems-and-Ad-54abaf6db88f4118a4e8fc5d95e1f8f1?pvs=4

this stuff always fascinated me, fractals, chaos and complexity theory description of nature etc, however i'm no mathematician so any explanation with equations would be lost on me. thanks for the link, i'll definitely check this out!

I rarely play video games these days but I usually always have some Stalker installed. Currently, it's Road To The North. It's a good mod! Might go for an hour or two this Sunday. I played Anomaly a lot during the first lockdown, but for me, freeplay Stalker is only fun until you are all geared up, at which point there isn't anything else to do really. I noticed that the biggest rush Anomaly ever gave me was when I got all the parts and tools for fixing up some good but broken rifle I had stashed away some in-game weeks earlier. But I always preferred story mods like OGSR. RTTN comes with an all-new storyline and has pretty good tasks. Can only recommend this mod if you want an expanded story mod for Stalker.

Yes, I used to play Stalker religiously.

I like Stalker too, played the CoP and SoC but I didn't venture into mod territory. Years later I got a tiny nostalgia kick, so I checked the Anomaly. It's way harder to play because enemies are so much more dangerous, which at first was a challenge I gladly took on. Combat felt more exciting and raiding camps was fun. But the crafting (well obtaining stuff mostly) takes away too much focus and I slowly lost interest unfortunately.

Find memories of the atmosphere of the SoC and CoP games still alive tho - I hope Stalker2 delivers some more of that

Basically the idea is that communism tends to evolve into what you see in North Korea. Or put differently, you have various kinds of power structures for societies. And where there are power structures, there's also corruption of power. Or rather, the tendency to move into corrupt directions, if unchecked.

In the case of North Korea you see an example where communism devolves towards. On the opposite side you could put the US. Whether or not they're equally corrupt is up for you to decide.

But the comparison between both North and South Korea should be an obvious one, imo. The starting point was the same. The ending point...well yeah.

the types of corruption and direct repression extends are different, but it's about accumulation of wealth and power, both of which are not willing to relinquish power willingly (as a form of a time-mandate, inherent by design). this is why i have an issue about such comparisons, or when someone says that x or y system is better or worse because proof... everything devolved (and is bound to devolve), namely in the capitalist system with neo-liberalism, nor was the capitalism better designed from the get-go (unlimited growth axiom) - to only name a few. with communism, we all can agree how it devolved.

compared to communists, the capitalists were wiser enough to give their citizens more slack. only to better facilitate the reign of the top caste, through a form of a bypass system. for it's not their moral courage that separates them from, say, NK despots. the same power-hoarding, soulless qualities can be found in our top caste (more so than ever). a glass dome separates the social stratas in both cases. the grand strategy of nations is not up to you, as a citizen. i don't care what you heard.

There's a perfect example - North Korea vs South Korea. Both created at the same moment in time, with the exact two approaches we're discussing being used, both starting from the same economic/industrialized base. So why don't you tell me why you think North Korea's central planning and devolution to a fascist state with autarky is the better option than South Korea?

i don't want to mix in this, but since you provided the north / south korea example, can one really make an arbitrary comparison between the two? i mean in terms one being a market-driven economy, the other is basically a despotic dictatorship? i try to understand why these comparisons tend to surface in these debates, since they don't offer a very clear examples of employment of respective systems that can be pitted against each other?
