    PEN EXPERS

Pen expers is an extreme version of a very common theme in electronic music -- having a slow reflective melody play over top of an abrasive rhythm section. This can be seen in Vordhosbn by aphex twin, the siege of antioch by Paradinas, tundra 4 by squarepusher, ect ect. But something about Pen expers makes it so unique. Maybe it is the simplicity of the 6 bar chord progression (which is all the melody is, actually), maybe it is complexity of the drums. It's probably a mixture. Everything just werks perfectly. It throws this wild frenzy of a drum beat at you, and then offers you a distanced perspective to look at it from. This is the pinnacle of reflection expressed with sound. Edit: fixt theme (I spelled it 'them' before)
  2. That was unforgetable! I really like that track, and this is a very accurate representation of what I see when I listen to it. The blobs of colourful lines (or whatever you call them) are really true to the tone of the synth, and your representation of the drums is very impressive. I am both amazed at how you synced this to the music so well, and in awe that it is such a beautiful artistic video. Is there a file to download, or do I have to watch it on the websites? PS: wow
  3. Mine's more of a metalic silver actually...
  4. I vote awesome for steels. I hated it at first, but I got really into it. It's really suspenseful. It sounds much better when really loud.
  5. I love steels. It's so minimalist and suspenseful.
  6. It's funny; the first time I heard steels I hated it, but now it's definitely the one that gets stuck in my head the most. It's just so ominous and suspenseful...
  7. People: We like Quaristice lumpenprol: No you don't!
  8. That must be the hidden 9 in the album
  9. According to the warp website, this is the only time they are to be released. Probably to justify charging $66 for it. On another note, any Stravinsky fans here? Steels really reminds me of the last movement of the Rite of Spring.
  10. It's hard to pick favorites so early, for sure, but I'm really really liking Paralel Suns.
  11. The bonus cd will have 11 extra tracks, and it's 68 minutes long. That means the tracks will average over 6:00 each. Do you think these tracks will evolve and develop like the untilted tracks?
  12. So any ideas if this going to be analogue or digital?
  13. So you just figured out for the first time that autechre and autarchy are similar words?
  14. Agreed. So why's this not on the front page then?
  15. The next logical step is to fast for 48 hours prior to the release.
  16. Definitely one of my favorite moments too. The melody is stretched unevenly across 7/4 bars, and the beat is compressed to hell, but somehow there's still logical phrasing. How can Autechre be so good?! Another one of my favorites. I've always thought that part sounds like a Celtic melody. Impacial Section - 1:47-2:18. There's a super funky 3-bar beat that repeats 4 times. I can't get enough of it.
  17. Well... except for Incunabula. But that's pretty weird.
  18. I wonder if it was officially announced at this precise moment because the info was leaked on xlt...
  19. Were the untilted fakes any good? I never head them.
  20. Well then force/surprise autechre them, and make some funny stories.
  21. Haha. I use that joke all the time, you're the first other person to do it (assuming you are a person). Congrats. And lawl, these are some great stories.
  22. So my brother isn't into electronic music at all. He listens to Pearl Jam, and Hendrix and such. So I was listening to LCC the other day, and my brother walks in my room with a bright look on his face and says "I didn't know you played counter-strike! .... oh." Anyone got any funny stories?
