    Secondary, 5 of 14

Who is this? Google lens failed to get a result and I tried "Woman topless with dog" and the most horrific results came forth...like, there's no way they can be legal. Anyway, I've known a pair almost exactly like that and the nostalgia is strong. Thanks.

Downside: No options if its someone you dont wanna see.

We all had to get cozy with Odesza in order to get good vantage points for Pritchard back in '16. They're not particularly bad or anything--just a fair amount of clockwatching on my part. It doesn't look like you can really lose on this lineup though.

Yeah, just listened to Oak Bank, very nice.  Bleep now have pre-orders up.  Very happy to hear this album, if its based on sketches from recent live shows then it should be great, saw him twice last year.

    *edit*
the digitals on bleep are cheaper than the tresor bandcamp, even for .wav.  I know some prefer the convenience of the bandcamp player though, but you could save a couple of quid over there.

Standard 24-bit for all Bandcamp .wavs though--just an aside. Bleep hits you with an audiophile surcharge. I'm already asking people to repeat themselves and sometimes can't distinguish between similar consonants but those 8 extra bits are *critical*

  4. I am stoked to see Ol' Surgeboi at Detroit in a couple of months. You can run into talent pretty easily there. I saw Lady Starlight hanging out alone by the funnel cakes but decided to leave her be. If I see Tony, I will apologize for libelous memes circa 2010 that he will likely have no clue about.

Aronofsky in full nihilism mode, it's a great performance, but the middle section of the film drags somewhat. I think this is the first film without Clint Mansell scoring, and it's a subtle soundtrack mostly, but effective.

Making the daughter the villain was brilliant, and no one beats Darren Aronofsky in eliciting an emotional response, you feel the full range of emotions being near Charlie. Including subplots solely through the use of conversation was great as well. This film feels similar to Requiem, as it's not one you want to watch repeatedly.

This movie fucked me up. I knew it was Aronofsky and I knew not to expect a feel-good ride but son of a bitch. I thought about it intensely for a week or so after watching it and while Brendan definitely deserves the accolades, I never want anything to do with it again lol.

Had an account here back during the Syro rollout, but let my sub lapse. Been lurking but rejoined for this, since it's something I happen to know a bit about.

This is not done by Apple, Apple merely hosts it. Instead, tragically, Apple has decided to just simply not enforce it's own policy re: Atmos upmixes. The worst offender is Warner, who dumps every hit single, and a handful of full albums into an AI upmixer and uploads the result. Often times the quality control is so poor, they leave the timecode track in the center channel. like in Robert Glasper Experiment's Black Radio.

Within 10 seconds of Xtal, I figured out what was "wrong" with this mix: it's another common way to skirt Dolby and Apple policy: copy paste the stereo into each channel. The original stereo is in the fronts, rears, sides, and heights. To create surround "effects" lower the volume of one channel, and voila. The effect works marginally better through earbuds/headphones as opposed to my 5.1.2, with the voices talking about trains in Tha appearing to hover slightly in the right side heights.

The payouts for Atmos streaming must be set differently than simple stereo, since this is a plague that's effected many classic albums. from Love's Forever Changes, to M83's Hurry Up We're Dreaming, and many more. While focusing on Warner only, this thread on surround sound music forum QuadraphonicQuad lists the sheer volume of crap mixes, as well as user efforts to help get them removed.

Furthermore, I doubt that Rich signed off on this, as this seems like something R&S would do on their own, considering how many mixes don't have artist involvement.

It's a shame, because when Atmos is done well (Magic Oneohtrix Point Never, Bjork's Fossora, the Kraftwerk 3-D The Catalogue/Der Katalog, and lots lots more, but sticking to IDM/IDM-adjacent titles here) it's fantastic. In fact, this frankly makes me want Rich to actually do proper mixes for other albums. But as it is, sadly it's just a crap mix of a great album. Based on how things are going however, about 30 of the bad Warner titles have had their mixes pulled, I doubt this is still up by the end of the year

This is some food for thought and I'm curious about your Warner info. The one time I've had to interact with them is to get the digital files for The War on Drugs. Their latest album sounds so much different from anything they've done from a mastering standpoint. It's possible that it's on purpose but on songs like "I Don't Want to Wait", it's so fuckin compressed and blown out in a very unpleasant way. I haven't been able to compare it to other sources but I'm curious if they have a quality control issue that they just don't care about when it comes time to press digital vinyls.

This is a .wav extracted from the .mp3 and you can see it brick out at numerous points. I guess it could also just be loudness wars or streaming optimizing. It's a bummer.

  7. The technoflation is roaring. I'm going to Movement in Detroit again this year and the identical ticket and hotel room is 28% higher over last year. It's worth it but fuuuuuu....

    Raving? In this economy?

  8. I saw The Foals a few weeks back and they brought along an opener called Glove

I went into my own head a little bit during the set and imagined this metaphor of aesthetic packages as costumes. This band is putting on a Wendy O jacket with Romeo Void boots and a New Order hat, etc.

"Retro" is the shorthand but the key is youth. Those of prime reproductive years in their peak blossom raid the closets of the past to signal fitness and ingenuity. It seems that it's an unofficial law that you have to return the outfits however. Nature will rebuke you and you'll be as incongruous as J. Howard Marshall fondling Anna Nicole Smith if you try to don the old garments

  9. Well no need to belabor the point but it turns out that Dawn FM is a hell of an album really. There is even a Lopatin mix of the title track so I chucked that into the album. In a way, if you subtract the obvious pop and R&B elements, it's a more well-behaved "Magic OPN". Particularly, "Every Angel Is Terrifying". It could be a straight outtake from the album really. The deluxe artwork further clinches it. Not sure if opn was behind it but it's hitting all his New Age/sci-fi/retro notes. Cheers to 7digital for having 24-bit FLAC for just $12.99

Easy way to print money. Don’t release the Kraken. Release the Analords!!!!

    (on Bandcamp)

(the YouTube channel with them all on is a half decent second best)

I pretty much know the answer already but, for real though, how?

    https://archive.org/details/analord-afx

It's listed as public domain with no known copyright claims. I know anyone can upload anything to the internet archive and there's no policing it but....surely this can't be true
