  1. Prometheus - Again ... saw it in cinema last year, was already disappointed then, but only this time round I realized how incredibly bad this film really is. I must have suppressed most negative thoughts while in cinema as my expectations were so high, I didn't WANT to be disappointed, but seeing it now, for a second time, more objectively ... it's really almost unwatchably bad. Like, REALLY horribly bad. The writing, the acting, almost every line is a cringeworthy slasher movie cliché, fuck ... and that godawful US Army soundtrack. What was he thinking, shitting all over his own creation like that?!!

Only plus is super-cute main-charcter-girl. But then again, that shouldn't be a factor in a serious sci-fi movie. Good lord, this film ... I mean, how did it happen.

  2. Wow you're still at it. Time for another that-bit-@ question:

Is there an extremely distorted voice-sample in tuinorizn at 0:20 / 0:21?

First time I heard this track was in an Amsterdam Hotel and I thought 0:20 was the landlord knocking at the door complaining cause we were being too loud.

    @Sean:

chris was introduced to me by caroline, who is mates with chantal, in a club in london in 94. alex lived with chris at the time.

    yeah pm me

    I did. :flower:

No need to hurry, just wanted to point that out so it doesn't get lost within the zOMG Hi!! -PMs you're probably getting.

It's freaking me out how many people there are on these online gaming teamspeak servers all of the time. I thought this was a 2003-thing but it's still going, and it's always the same ... it's like they're all stuck in some kind of purgatory, carrying out monotonous, meaningless tasks ... and why is there always so many people on there who sound ~5 years old? The African Drug Lord is the only thing in this video that gives me a sense of security.

  4. Here's something that's more of personal interest to me, but I'll ask anyway - How did you get in touch with the directors for your videos back in the day? Did you know them before, or did Warp suggest some to you, ... ?

There haven't been any official ae-videos lately, and I don't know whether there are any plans for the future, but I'm wondering whether you ever look at "submissions" of wannabe- or low-profile-directors and such? Let's say, I have a showreel or something, send that to Warp or directly to you - would you even consider working with someone you haven't met or is it a waste of time?

I'm not thinking of anything in particular right now, I don't have anything, but your music is quite "visual" for me and I like to do music videos (ones that aren't just After Effects plug-ins..), so I'm thinking it'd be pretty neat to make one some day - Just a thought for the future.

If not, just tell me to fuck off now, I can take it.

Especially after I just got "removed" from the position of directing an upcoming video on Not Not Fun records (long story, it was porn-related ... )

  5. I'll try not to ask too many questions... but here's another one:

Even though I love Exai and your recent stuff (except Oversteps, that one totally misses me), one of my fav track of yours is Tazmx - I never really see this one get mentioned anywhere, but it's just such an honest, nice and atmospheric little piece. Do you have like an archive of some other old drafts or out-takes that you're not embarrassed about and might release some day?

And, if no release is scheduled anyway and Warp doesn't have their claw on it, would you be so kind and maybe even leak a track or two at some point? :emb:

  6. It was pretty easy, they had this thing ( http://www.reloop.com/reloop-jockey-3-me-2 ) hooked up to Traktor Pro. It was very intuitive. I was supposed to only play Selected Ambient Works and such, as they are easy to mix, but I ended up playing shit like VHS Head's DPP39, or Second Bad Vilbel, Nuearz's Hedonism etc ... I don't get how people can just sit there to these tracks and talk, but they clap and cheer every two minutes when the regular DJ takes out the mid frequencies on a lame-ass techno-beat and fades it back in... but that's people for you. Still lots of fun the whole thing!

  7. Laid down my first-ever live set tonight, thought it was going to end catastrophically, but it went super-smooth. Didn't even fuck up a single transition even though I had zero experience with live mixing. Turns out, DJing is "my kind of thing".

Of course, people didn't dance to Ae, or Aphex, or Squarepusher, or VHS Head, or you name it, but waited for the "experienced DJ" to play his four hours of 4-4 minimal 120 bpm soundalikes before they freaked out. But the three chinstrokers sitting in the corner totally appreciated my selection, which is all I was hoping for!

  8. I know I'm going to get trashed for this but I guess it's safe to say that Oversteps is the only release of theirs that hasn't grown on me over time and probably never will. I really do hate its guts and the cringeworthy baroque sound makes it almost unlistenable for me. The only track I really like is Yuop because it doesn't sound like the rest of the album. I wish I could understand what the majority of you guys see in it.

  9.

It sucks when you dream you're with the perfect person and then wake up knowing you lost it. Fack.

    OH I FUCKING HATE THOSE

Yeah those are terrible, I get them like once every two years but they totally ruin your day!

I dreamed I was in some boiler-room and kicked Hitler's face in. He was hiding under a pipe. He then threatened he'd call somebody (Todd's Uncle?) to order a hit on me. My phone started ringing with an unknown number and I knew it was the nazis trying to pin down my position. I leaned out a window leading to a back alley and saw a CD on the ground I couldn't reach. I asked the black dude standing next to the window to pick it up for me as it belonged to me. The dude turned out to be VHS Head and followed me to the living room where we talked about daddy long legs.

  10. We had our finals-party at "art school" on Tuesday for which I made a 6 hour Ambient-set for the lounge-area, including a whole bunch of old Aphex, mid-90s-Autechre, Biosphere, Black Dog and some Dub Techno as well. I got a little too worked up mixing this thing, spend way too much time on it, even though I was sure nobody was going to pay attention anyway as long as there was some music playing. But I thought, if there's only one guy in the crowd who appreciates the tracks I chose, it's already worth it. I never thought I'd meet the guy though!

About 4 hours into the mix, a dude came forward and told me "I've been to so many different places, but it took me ten years to finally find one where someone included Ageispolis in their set, it's my favorite track in the world." - then he totally freaked out when he learned about the Mike & Rich -album that somehow he had never heard of.

    Success!

Then my professor punched a guy in the face because he had bled on his shoe. Even better.

  11. Played 5 hours of Beyond - Two Souls

It's definitely the best looking video game I've ever seen. Some of it looks like actual camera footage, especially the faces.

The problem is how unfocused it is, it wants to be so many different genres and draws inspiration from so many different films, it becomes a bit unbelievable after a while. Also the controls kind of suck. Animation is beautifully done, again, the best I've ever seen in a game, the characters react to their surroundings, you can read their body language, which is fantastic. But the action event controls are pretty rubbish. They should have stuck with the quick-time-event-esque controls of Heavy Rain and ditch this new "Push the right stick in the direction her arms are moving" thing. A lot of times, you just don't know where the game wants you to move the stick cause the camera angle keeps changing, so we ended up failing a lot at these action scenes, which in the end didn't matter at all, we never died once. I don't know if it's even possible to die in this game. You don't really have many choices either. You get to pick maybe one line for her to say every hour or so.

It's still a pretty great game and also delivers the most (or perhaps the only) believable female lead I've seen in a game, except for Heather from Silent Hill 3. It's just a bit sad that they made some bad decisions and wasted a lot of potential. This could have been a milestone, now it's only very atmospheric eyecandy. But I'll finish it.

  12. I still have an 8GB Creative Zen player and it does the job just fine. Except it doesn't have folder-structure and relies only on mp3-taggs, that is pretty lame. It still works fine though.

Pro-Tip for buying mp3-players: Shitty, over-priced, custom-format & -software-requiring mp3-players as well as other electronics are indicated by this warning-symbol proudly_use_logo_apple.gif- I call it "my lil' shopping adviser", it hasn't yet failed me.

  13. A bit later she realised it wasn't me and proceeded to tell me, In a very matter-of-fact way (the way only 13 year old girls can) that "the ting doesn't fit, and is out of time. And it isn't really music. Someone obviously got a machine and bashed some keys. It doesn't even have guitar or piano or singing"

funny how it's only three years ago but still, this doesn't happened anymore, does it?

Now you only get "This is shit, is it dubstep?" vs "Hey, if you stuff like this, you're gonna LOVE that dubstep cd I just bought, here, I'll send you his discography!" - kinda longing for the good ol' days of mere ignorance.

i was driving to work on thursday and saw one of my coworkers about a half mile away from work. i decided to see if she wanted a ride and she said yeah. we talked a little on the way to work with the plc ccc playing in the background. she stopped mid sentence and was like "this sounds really familiar?" i was like "really? where do you think you heard this from?" then she asked what it was, i answered her and she was like "AUTECHRE... THAT'S WHAT IT IS! my boyfriend listens to them!" then i was like... "well your BF has good taste!"... she seemed to talk to me more since that day... i probably went up a few notches in her "cool-o-meter" or something.

Soo ... are you dating her yet? :emb:
