I agree it's a more cohesive album.
Could definitely go for an EP or another album. We need Just Eyes and Mouth at least... I really think that's one of their best tracks.
-
I gave it a bit of a break after the first week odd, but lately I've been in a contemplative mood so this has been hitting the spot.
Still don't think it really comes close to the first album. That just has too many good/great tracks.
-
Pretty good on first listen. Looking forward to giving it many more plays.

I'm gonna try and hold out, it's only a few days away. How's the leak quality? If it's good it might be hard to resist...

My immediate reaction is that its a pretty dull single.. But then again, I feel that Thom Yorke's melodic strength has sort of fizzled out over these last few years. I miss a good hook from him.
The last thing from him that really gave me goosebumps was the piano pieces from the Suspiria soundtrack.I would say that Decks Dark, Present Tense, Thin Thing and Skrting on the Surface all had top tier vocal melodies at least. But, maybe that's just me.

The album is out! Very solid on first listen. Not as raw as Of Matter and Spirit which will likely remain my favourite, but quality all the way through and well polished. I think I will prefer this to DNA Feelings.

Yes! Aisha Devi is amazing and I've also been waiting for this.
If you get a chance, go see her live.

He doesn't owe us anything tough. The releases since 2019 have been hit or miss i agree but the tunes 2011-2019 compilation is such a treat to listen to. His stylistic evolution really shines through and it feels like a real album. I'm fine with more of that.
The clips i heard for this track are very promising. Love the guitar-ish sample he uses.
For sure nobody owes us anything. But it's just interesting how some artists can maintain seemingly infinite patience and reverence, but others fall by the wayside quickly. Where I've reached now I'm interested, but not really holding much in the way of expectations with new Burial music.

I still really enjoy listening to Burial's albums.
It's a bit of a piss take to only release EPs or singles since then though. The first couple were solid sure, but since then it's honestly been pretty naff stuff for... 10+ years? Come on.

I was mulling this over in my head today and I came up with Idles. Heard a few of their records which I thought were pretty good, then last year same as Squid at Glastonbury. Watch that set, and I defy if it doesn't blow the cobwebs away from your brain. That was a monster performance.
Thanks for the tip. Idles had completely slipped past me, but I've been listening to their albums and yeah I quite enjoy them all. Not subtle sure but plenty of energy and good riffs. I can dig it.

Sick game with an A+ soundtrack.

Yeah we were trying to think of any decent UK bands of the last 15 years in the pub the other day. We couldn’t think of any, and one lad was in his early 30s so it wasn’t an age thing. And we all hate the Arctic Monkeys….
Black Midi and Squid are pretty decent. I was a bit disappointed by Black Midi live earlier this year though. The singer is the weak link.
King Krule is good if they count? Maybe?
Arctic Monkeys are honestly pretty solid as well. Especially Tranquillity Base which is full of hilarious lyrics.
We are of course far from the 90's heyday. The Smile was one of the best albums of 2022 for my money.

Ehhh first listen and it's a bit patchy for me so far. I quite enjoyed the first album. This has some okay stuff, but seems a bit meandering in places. Will see maybe it will grow on me.

That's the original release it look like.
I already own the original on CD. Am I going to need to buy this new CD, then use my dads computer to rip myself some digitals because I don't even own a CD player anymore lol
-
CD and vinyl only? Come on, I only want the digitals.

New Katie Gately album is out on Houndstooth. Frankly, it's brilliant. Maximalist production with top tier sound design, baroque elements, heavy electronics, heady lyrics and plenty to unpack.
-
I loveeee Tales of Ephidrena. Prob my favourite FSOL adjacent release but I admittedly need to dig deeper. But for some reason this album got near constant play with my family and friends... it's a total classic, pretty under the radar for most.

Few more listens, album is quite good. Kandy, Carbon Dioxide, North, Tapping Fingers, Bottom of the Ocean are my highlights. There are elements I like in every track, and no tracks I dislike (I'd skip a few on the last album).
-
Ayeee a harsh review, but an honest one. Definitely doesn't measure up to the first album, but nothing here is as cringe as the bad moments on Plunge. But, yeah seems like the singles might be the best tracks which is unfortunate. See how I feel after a few listens.
-
Alright this is getting close. All 3 tracks released so far are good so I have high hopes.

The first of the albums is out, and sounds good from the preview tracks!

They have two afaik, Mings Feaner and The Faex Has Decimated. Both are excellent so if you're missing one you should rectify that asap
EDIT whaddaya know they actually have 3, "the Voynich Manuscript" from 2016 as well
Mings Feaner is one of the very best things Roel has ever done. Such a rich alien mood, and filled with great tracks. I wasn't as impressed by the other albums.
Very keen for these. The tracks I've heard from Roel sets have been very nice!

Amen to that man!
I appreciate Fever Ray and am excited to hear the album, but March? Godamn! I understand marketing and planning it but that's a hell of a preliminary announcement.
The march release especially sucks because the previous album was basically announced and released immediately after. I hate long teased album releases. Just give it to us already!
