My immediate reaction is that its a pretty dull single.. But then again, I feel that Thom Yorke's melodic strength has sort of fizzled out over these last few years. I miss a good hook from him.

The last thing from him that really gave me goosebumps was the piano pieces from the Suspiria soundtrack.

I would say that Decks Dark, Present Tense, Thin Thing and Skrting on the Surface all had top tier vocal melodies at least. But, maybe that's just me.

He doesn't owe us anything tough. The releases since 2019 have been hit or miss i agree but the tunes 2011-2019 compilation is such a treat to listen to. His stylistic evolution really shines through and it feels like a real album. I'm fine with more of that.

The clips i heard for this track are very promising. Love the guitar-ish sample he uses.

For sure nobody owes us anything. But it's just interesting how some artists can maintain seemingly infinite patience and reverence, but others fall by the wayside quickly. Where I've reached now I'm interested, but not really holding much in the way of expectations with new Burial music.

I was mulling this over in my head today and I came up with Idles. Heard a few of their records which I thought were pretty good, then last year same as Squid at Glastonbury. Watch that set, and I defy if it doesn't blow the cobwebs away from your brain. That was a monster performance.

Thanks for the tip. Idles had completely slipped past me, but I've been listening to their albums and yeah I quite enjoy them all. Not subtle sure but plenty of energy and good riffs. I can dig it.

Yeah we were trying to think of any decent UK bands of the last 15 years in the pub the other day. We couldn’t think of any, and one lad was in his early 30s so it wasn’t an age thing. And we all hate the Arctic Monkeys….

Black Midi and Squid are pretty decent. I was a bit disappointed by Black Midi live earlier this year though. The singer is the weak link.

King Krule is good if they count? Maybe?

Arctic Monkeys are honestly pretty solid as well. Especially Tranquillity Base which is full of hilarious lyrics.

We are of course far from the 90's heyday. The Smile was one of the best albums of 2022 for my money.

They have two afaik, Mings Feaner and The Faex Has Decimated. Both are excellent so if you're missing one you should rectify that asap :emotawesomepm9:

EDIT whaddaya know they actually have 3, "the Voynich Manuscript" from 2016 as well

Mings Feaner is one of the very best things Roel has ever done. Such a rich alien mood, and filled with great tracks. I wasn't as impressed by the other albums.

Very keen for these. The tracks I've heard from Roel sets have been very nice!

    Amen to that man!

I appreciate Fever Ray and am excited to hear the album, but March? Godamn! I understand marketing and planning it but that's a hell of a preliminary announcement.

The march release especially sucks because the previous album was basically announced and released immediately after. I hate long teased album releases. Just give it to us already!
