I'm looking in to getting a new laptop. are centrino or turion processors good enough for music production? i use reason and cubase. and which one is better? centrino or turion?

most people look at this problem at the wrong angle.

 

the cpu you use isn't anywhere near as important as the supporting chipset. get a shitty chipset, and you'll have a hell of an experience trying to do anything audio related. (i'm talking the motherboard chipset, rather than just the audio chipset).

 

which chipsets are you looking at for the laptops you're considering?

I'd vote Turion! That's what I've got in my laptop and it kicks ass.....my mate's got an expensive Vaio with a Centrino and it can't handle half as many VSTs as my cheaper, no-make (well, it's an Advent) laptop.

yep, i've never had a problem with my turion - and it's only got 512MB of ram (been meaning to up to a gig but just haven't gotten round to it).
