Best thing about Happy Mondays was that even I could dance to it without looking too much of a tit, or no more than anyone else anyway. And yeah, Quadrastate and Technique, takes me right back. Living in the Northwest at the time it kind of felt like we belonged to all that shit (and technically I'm as much of a Manc as Tim Burgess, who's from near Northwich in Cheshire like me). I quickly became sick of all that though and found solace in The Fall, who were as far removed from Madchester etc. as you could get.

I have no excuse! I was a home counties girl going to school in NY!

I took the more usual exit through shoegaze into psych...

lol sometimes it felt like a contest to be the biggest northerner in those days. And talking of shoegaze, I remember getting Scar by Lush (just about scraped into the 80s), I loved that record nearly as much as the Mad Love EP. In fact all of their pre-Britpop phase EPs were awesome.

More 4AD, Throwing Muses (first two albums and The Fat Skier), Modern English (Dust and Lace), It'll End In Tears (This Mortal Coil), and the Kansas EP by Wolfgang Press. All awesome.

Yes! <3 early Lush. Those first e.p.s were just earth-shattering for me. The mid period ones got a bit too Robin Gurthried (Cocteau Twins have been namechecked already on this thread, right?) for me but all the early EPs were released as the Gala comp in the States which remains one of my favourite albums ever.

Also ditto Throwing Muses - I was gonna toss one of their songs up here but couldn't find the one I was looking for on YouTube.

Almost ANYTHING on 4AD in the 80s is gonna be untouchable. Yes, I'm showing my goth roots here - I'll rep for Dead Can Dance as well...

Wait, I found it, I was searching for Lonely Is An Eyesore - forgot tha twas the name of the comp, the song was actually called Fish:

But I *WAS* a goth until I discovered LSD. I was a total teenage goth. It's just that, after acid, well, it's really hard to find black paisley clothes. ;-P

the only reason she hasnt been banned is cause she paid to be a member of ekt plus or whatever, thats why her name is in bold grey and prolly why she has such an inflated sense of self worth, what a sucker.

OMG... I had NO IDEA this even existed...

Paul Oakenfeld Dead Can Dance remix - I have no idea if this is a good thing or a bad thing. If this turns out sounding like that Enigma/Chant monk crap I'm gonna go postal

edit: don't click this link, it's truly terrible ^^^^

Dead Can Dance is just perfect "coming down after a 4-day trip" chill out music. I will rep for it, even if it gets me banned.

NOOOOOO NOOOOOOOOOOOOO THIS REMIX IS JUST SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WRONG ABOMINATION ABOMINATION MAKE IT STOP!

This is what it's supposed to sound like...

I didn't think I could hate Oakenfeld any more after that terrible cameo in the last Madonna video but wow, I need to wash my brain out with mouthwash.

the message wasn't intended for you im just trying to see if she really has me on ignore. which imo was prolly a smart move on her behalf as it allows her to continue on her clueless post binge without any dose of hard reality to bring her down to earth

some attention seeking crap or other

let us know when one crosses your mind.

Guys, this cretin is clearly trolling for attention trying to disrupt a thread where people are actually enjoying themselves. I've got him blocked so I can't see whatever bile he's spewing, but please don't ruin this thread by encouraging him by quoting him or engaging with him.

Just get on with posting great videos and songs from the 80s. I've been really enjoying the suggestions on this thread and I hope others are, too. Anyone got any more?

I think this stuff just about sneaks into the 80s - amazing Japanese synth pop on the Gary Numan style tip...

p.s. if you find my posts seriously objectionable, please do everyone a favour and just block me. You'll find the link in your profile section. Type my screenname in, and you never have to see another post from me again. It'd be really great if you could just do this instead of bringing threads to a crashing halt by just complaining about me. OK? Thanks.
