"Dior tapped spooky film director David Lynch ("Mulholland Drive," "Blue Velvet," "Twin Peaks") in December to write and direct the newest installment of its mysterious short-film series.

The result, "Lady Blue Shanghai," art directed by John Galliano and starring Marion Cotillard, face of the Lady Dior handbag, has now arrived."

Interesting, though a bit too much like his short web films unfortunately—not sure if I get that impression via the dialogue or the camera operation/cinematography, but hey, new Lynch!

Since his move away from celluloid most of his current output looks like this. He uses some pretty low end gear like a Sony DSR-PD150 which I guess gives it the film-school-dropout effect.

It's about a girl in trouble!

and yeah, largely because of the camera work and some dialogue, the whole short feels like one of his sketchy web works. i think inland empire was a bit too unjustly excessive in its editing, but tied together pretty well. eh, still kind of unsure about his future DV-only work. but he is legend.

I actually liked this a lot... the way it associates that weird feeling of longing for someone from a dream with the idea of buying a uselessly expensive fashion axcessory is interesting, either as a technique for an ad or as a statement about ads/consumerism... but that could be reading way too much into it. the ambient music was nice.
