  1. I thought it was great too - I've read a lot of shitty, thesaurus-milking dreck in the music press, but the difference here is that the guy knows what the words actually mean. I know that feeling of the ghost of the rhythmic pulse remaining in your mind long after the beats have been scrambled beyond recognition, in fact if there was a single quality I could use to describe their music, that would be it. So many times I find myself nodding to a rhythm that's not even there.
  2. That's "Os Veix3" - the one with the cool Vangelis vibe. Great track, I love the suspended, floating feel. It really does sound like a recorded spraycan doesn't it? As I pointed out before, "Krylon" is the trade name for the paint inside spray cans. So Oversteps might be a tagger's delight.
  3. My money is still on a 210210 release - Sunday week.
  4. Agreed, really digging that one! It really does swing. Anyone getting a Vangelis vibe from Os Veix 3? I think it's an auto-text replacement when someone at Bleep types STFU.
  5. What leak were you listening to? The single-file one is the same as the Norman samples, i.e. proven to be genuine.
  6. No, but Krylon is the trade name of the acrylic paint in spray cans, the heart and soul of old-school taggerz, yo.
  7. Except that the tracks start cleanly, without the crossfades. Cling to whatever you need though.
  8. Yeah, I think the impressive thing about Ae is that they have the chops to pursue whatever sounds they needed. Oversteps proves they have the taste to not use those chops if the work doesn't need it.
  9. Confirmation of the leak makes all the comments about technical simplicity, pre-made tools, etc. even more interesting. A good chunk of the fanbase seem to want Ae records to push the technical envelope above all else - if tracks are made with recognisable tools it's seen as a failure somehow. Since I don't use any of this software, as a listener the album seems almost austere in its rejection of technique, and creates its effects by very conventional means - dissonance, harmony, timbre, rhythm. The fact that it *sounds* so immediately Autechre is brilliant - they are about feel, instinct, sensibility, presence, not software development or hardware hacking. This record seems like a very deliberate statement to that effect - the arms race ends here. Quaristice attempted to break the forms by being casual instead of fanatical, but Oversteps is really quite a formal record. I have a lot of respect for that and I think this will be up there with their peak output.
  10. My beautiful 1979 Marantz 2285b receiver's power supply failed last week and I spent part of the weekend rebuilding it, the new leak was the thing I listened to first, it was nerve-wracking. We made it through just fine though. Agreed on Chiastic, that record is microscopically tweaked and manicured.
  11. I will never forget listening to that back in 2000 or 01 or whenever it leaked, it unfolded like a flower. I sullied myself with Napster just to get Confield, or maybe for Kid A, can't recall, trashed it not long after. Yeesh, leak nostalgia.
  12. On Jan 13th I dropped $78.18 for the vinyl and CD, how much have you spent? Maybe I should mention the $62 I spent on Quaristice and the Quadrange EP. Oh - and physical, actual copies of EVERY SINGLE AUTECHRE RELEASE EVER apart from Cavity Job and Splitrmx. Christ, I bought the Draft promo cassette. And the mailorder EP. You?
  13. So just to recap, the quality of Ae's material reveals itself over long time periods, and on that basis, you are able to confidently state that the music you heard 12 hours ago does not possess that quality. Thanks for playing.
  14. Listened twice through, and if it ain't the real Oversteps then as a fake it's a whole order of magnitude more sophisticated. The Altered Carbon one was a good album which very directly referenced Ae patterns, structures and sounds, which sounded like either Ae being deliberately backward looking (disappointing) or someone wholesale copying their style, turned out to be the latter. This one sounds pretty startlingly different from recent output, BUT in a way which is believably them - much harder to pull off. Re the fades and double-Ilanders - someone may have had a promo, been unwilling to burn a copy, but willing to stream it to a friend over iTunes / whatever. The playlist may have Ilanders twice, and "crossfade tracks - 2 seconds" could be set in the preferences. Friend makes a streamrip, uploads it, voila. Explains the single long track as well.
  15. Been badly burned so not going to say anything absolute, but this "leak" is a fascinating record and deserves a listen.
  16. Nice Translator renders the same text as "Journal panel will add a bonus track in Japan" which, since all the track names are in Roman script, and the last note about the bonus track is in Japanese text, means that it's probably a descriptive sentence about the label adding a track, rather than a track name. Other translators say "The board in Japan is bonus truck additional collecting", "Dial Japan Journal added bonus track", "As for the Japanese domestic board bonus track/truck additional recording". My guess is that the "journal panel" or "board" is equivalent to English "tracklist" - so the sentence means that there will be an additional track added to the tracklist for Japan. Man, I think it would be quicker to learn Japanese at this rate.
  17. Sorry - just realised what a classic/cliche leak-discussion-post that is, could be 2001, 2003, 2005, 2008. Still some awesome tracks there, happy to be wrong if I am.
  18. Ah well, I can live with looking like an idiot if I'm wrong.
  19. No, I just couldn't be bothered wading through the thread.
