"Getting lost in the wonderful (if not slightly alienating) new Autechre double album (...) The closer “Cep puiqMX” especially shows this-era Ae at their harshest, and it’s killer; I’d like to hear this in a club. The beats sound like Autechre’s late-era dubstep and hip-hop flirtations, but they quickly begin to reveal flaws and cracks, before shifting just slightly so the whole thing is a skewed mess of drums caving in, like bits of falling detritus. Thunderous but skittish at the same time, tracks like this show how late-era Autechre is more than just the pseudo-‘random’ processing gone awry that it sometimes sounds like." http://futureproofing.tumblr.com/post/40693741514/getting-lost-in-the-wonderful-if-not-slightly

the first part, yes the second part, no, not at all (though there is a lot of reverb and low-end, but dubstep?! the f'ck) i think, watmm will be very happy with exai i'm not the biggest autechre connaisseur and fan, but i love their fast beats, weird rhythms and amazing textures and was let down by oversteps. the melodies on exai somehow remind me of oversteps, but they are way more in the background and there is a lot of prog-idm beats going on, as someone put it. there is even a 12 minute long beast. sorry i cant come up with a good comparison, i don't remember all the autechre lps perfectly. but i'm quite sure watmm will love this. and i only listened to the first cd, as my editior isnt able to get the second disc to me. don't take my opinion too seriously, otherwise you risk being let down by your first listening experience edit: it's amazing to see that while idm is slowly but steadily dying (or isn't it?) there are still some guys doing their thing like they did in the 90ies, not giving a sh't about hype or selling lps and their success proves them right. thanks. sounds promising

dense?

guys! some info on the new album, by an RA staff writer (https://twitter.com/andrewryce): The Autechre album is incredibly dense... sometimes fussy, sometimes gorgeous. If Oversteps was a step towards clarity, this is a step back. + That's not a bad thing at all. It reminds me of Quaristice but with the songs fully fleshed out.. some tracks evoke old dubstep too.

reviews will not be always be done without promos. i won't review a movie if i dont get to see it early. i want to write about it the day the movie gets released in my country. it's no use reviewing if it's already out and i didnt get to see it early. that's how it works. yup!

I very much doubt that Autechre acquire listeners via reviews. but I could be wrong. this is wattm nah, but reviews make people aware there's a new ae comin!

Promos are out! Resident Advisor staff writer on Twitter (https://twitter.com/andrewryce/status/290886729580281856) confirms: "Autechre promo in the inbox. Trying not to flip out."

Yeah I seriously wonder how much of an impact this has on their sales. I also don't get why you can't just release the album in line with radio promotion. I get the impression that 75% of their sales will be fans who would pre order anyways. I'm sure if they released music by themselves, they wouldn't bother with promos. but they are signed to one of the biggest independent electronic labels in the world. and labels have a certain mentality. Warp have been forward thinking in some respects, but in this respect they're still sticking to the status quo. imo promos are for reviews, radio shows, etc. one post on a site like fact mag makes maybe 5.000 guys want the new autechre. good for the preorders. :-)

2 months? More like six weeks (27th feb) that the Japan release date? ...who goes by Japanese release dates? unless of course they live in Japan... i'm obviously talking about the actual official UK release date, which is the 4th of March, according to Bleep. so if you want to get pernickety, that's exactly 7 weeks today. which is exactly 49 days. which is 1,176 hours. actually, yeah, 7 weeks aint that long... it's only 49 days! its max 6 weeks mate, because im sure there'll be at least one japanese guy who will rip this for us
