Or do i have to buy the shirt

You need to buy the shirt. It's on the pricey side, but the t-shirt does look good.

It ships from the States, but with December and COVID, might take a while. I did get a dispatch note straight away Friday, so fingers crossed.

    alrighty. finished first (two?) episode

actually kinda enjoyed that. i like ben sisko and that one dame that supposedly has "a slug" inside her.  i'm hoping "the entity" in this episode has a broader story arc than just this one (two?) episodes though. the only person i thought was weak was jake sisko. he only had a few lines and somehow managed to make each one annoying.

also- was surprised the guy with the boxy face turns into a kind of metallic liquid. not sure why that surprised me. i guess i'm used to humanoids that don't turn into stuff.

Sisko is my favourite Captain, I think he has a great character arc over the 7 seasons. Jake can be a little annoying at times, but you don't get many shows that have quite a positive view of single parent, father and son relationship. It's quite tender in places. Wait for some Jake and Nog high jinks, and some self sealing stem bolts.

Ahhh Dax, aka the "one with the slug", is awesome. However, she would face being cancelled in today's cultural appropriation wars, for the fetishisation of Klingon culture.

Before re-starting Voyager Season 1, I did watch the 2 parter Future's End the other night. I forgot how good some of the Voyager episodes could be, and that ep was easily up there with the other series. Love a bit of temporal prime directive shenanigans, and capitalism is bad, bad dudes.

and i never watched ds9. one of my friends swears by it but he recommended starting with specific episodes- which i've never had the patience to do- and thus never watched it.

i also agree with star trek being something "they could still do something awesome with", but i think they just need good writers. this whole philosophy that we should cater to short term attention span audiences by producing jj abrams influenced trek series' that always take place before TOS just doesn't work imo- not to mention how much they don't even resemble trek in look.

another major problem for me is the casting. i always loved TNG and VOY characters. i think michelle yeoh would've worked great if she was cast as (maybe?) a tal shiar or vulcan. maybe even a betazoid but as it stands, it's like they threw together a united colors of benetton casting call and told everyone to just pretend they're working for NASA.

In the interest of continued peace in the Alpha Quadrant, I will happily re-watch Voyager, and I hope you will watch DS9 ?

I'm not a fan of JJ Abrams, always found his work "meh", and I think he missed the point with Star Trek with the films. I  managed 2 episodes of Discovery, but it was just full of 'plosions and people running around corridors. You've got a whole galaxy - and time - to play with, and they keep trying to add to the history around TOS. That being said, I did finally get around to watching Enterprise this year, and bar a patchy first season, I really enjoyed it, though that last episode...

I'd like to see a Trek series that has something a little bit more positive to say about the future, showing us being the "better angels of our nature". Have a show that can act as a pull to get people into science, and fit in some of the great discoveries from astronomy and physics from the last decade.

I'm watching Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987–1994) with the gf on Netflix.
It's surprisingly fun and addictive to watch. We like it very much.
In years past I kept ignoring all things Star Trek related, cause I thought it looked like a silly Star Wars clone.
Jeez, by the nine divines, was I wrong.
About a month ago I decided to give this old series a shot...
...It's now one of my favourite TV series of all time. I love it.
I'm not convinced by any of the newer series and movies however.
They look waaay off the mark; like they don't understand what Star Trek is all about.
Anyway, tldr: I'm enjoying ST-TNG a lot right now.

TNG was a bit shaky in the first few seasons (though I love them all) but you really start to get some gems, with the occasional duff episode.

i'd also recommend voyager. it's not as good as TNG but it's definitely fun despite a few very cringy episodes.

Never got into Voyager, though it's still worth watching. DS9 has always been my fave, awesome cast, and great character development. At its best Star Trek is just awesome. They could still do something awesome with it, just need to sort the rights out, and get people that actually like it behind a new show.

  5. Vol.4 was the first Jeff Mills release I picked up on vinyl, worth the price of admission for A1 alone (IMO). I've been enjoying the series starting up again this year, and now Axis are offering offering Vol.4 as a free download (MP3/WAV) from today, until the 26th of December.

the bros should start making soundtracks

There should be a biopic of the Autechre story, or maybe a series a la Wu-Tang: An American Saga.

Start off on the mean streets of Rochdale, bus stop tagging, making tapes... Each series comes with a selection of unreleased tracks from the archives for that time period. I'm thinking, maybe Gary Barlow could play Rob now. Not sure about Sean, maybe Adam Levine? Both have acting experience, and would be able to tap into their vast musical reserves to nail the roles.

Still loving PLUS, but no shipping update ?

To be fair, I don't actually have a tape deck to play the tape back perfectly so I may just opt for the fuscia exclusive and find a HQ rip of the tape instead.

Are they offering 88 as a HQ digital rip?

Looks like Ninja Tune have taken 88 down from Bandcamp.

No download code came with the tape (at least with my copy)

ackshually it's also available on Ninjatune, at least. but yeah, only available as a bundle. i contacted the Ninjatune customer service asking if there was some way i could buy the tape separately or offer it as a CD bundle, but the cowards never replied to me.

Just calling out that the crystal fuchsia version was available from Bleep, not about the cassette bundles, lack of clarity on my part ?

Bit annoying that they haven't sold the cassette separately, or extend the bundles as you say.

I ordered from Ninja Tune, got the clear version and tape. My copy is a tad on the noisy side, which is a bummer. I'd have liked the options of the other copies, before buying.

Interestingly was at two record stores yesterday with the intention of buying this hopefully with the 88 cassette bundles with it; it's only being sold without in shops from what I saw..think I better buy the bundle online before it sells out...was tempted by the pinkish vinyl available too but can't find that online now...

    That's the Bleep exclusive: https://bleep.com/release/202780-actress-karma-desire

Well, the one that had the inappropriate ads I don't remember (it was easily 10+ years ago), and for a long time I used VigLink (not advertising, but if a link posted say to Amazon or Ebay gets posted, it would append an affiliate link and pay a percentage of the sale if the item was purchased via that link) - I liked them because it was transparent and didn't plaster ads all over the site. However, for the past 8+ months, no revenue has come in and they don't answer support emails so I think it is dead (they were bought by another company).

Porn/Brand safety breaches will always be an issue, even with Google's ad network on occasion.

I know of VigLink, never worked with them directly, but they were bought by Sorvn, an SSP/Programmatic platform.

Are you quite opposed to banner ads, page skins and video ads? I guess you would be, as they are pretty annoying.

The industry is under a lot of scrutiny at the moment from a privacy perspective, and quite rightly too. GDPR in Europe is raising a lot of questions on how some of the key protocols for ad buying aren't particularly compliant. And the CCPA is shaping conversations in the States. The impending death of the 3rd party cookie will make things harder for everyone reliant on them for targeting are scrambling to best understand how they'll be able to find their "users". Ads don't have to be bad, but it's hard to do them well, especially on forums.

Adsense will probably be painless for you, and won't require much effort.

I totally agree - I remember long ago I tried some advertising thing and it was putting ads that not only were not targeted, but in some cases entirely inappropriate (some adult content) so we quickly abandoned that. I think AdSense would be more targeted and focused based on what we post.

Out of interest, what ad vendors/network partners did you try to work with before?

    nice

Saw this earlier, though haven't looked fully yet at what's available in today's news cycle about the report.

However, I did see that Ken Livingstone was called out in particular too.

It also sounds ISS:SA-esque and Sublimit-esque kinda

There's always a strong feeling of "family resemblance" with Autechre's work, so totally getting comments around ISS:SA, Draft and Confield...

ecol4 really makes me think of Tangle Ill, from 28 seconds onwards. Was searching like mad yesterday, thanks for the reminder.

(edit) Going to have to listen to ISS:SA now.
