  1. Found a big pile of fairly standard (but cool) stuff in a local thrift yesterday for dirt cheap:

    The Grateful Dead - Europe '72 3xLP

Dean Martin - My Woman, My Woman, My Wife

    Crosby Stills & Nash

Crosby Stills & Nash - CSN

Roy Orbison - Roy Orbison's Greatest Hits

Pat Metheny - Bright Size Life

    Jean-Michel Jarre - Equinoxe

Tom Van Der Geld & Children At Play - Patience

Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense

Go-Go's - Beauty And The Beat

    George Carlin - Class Clown

Simon & Garfunkel, Dave Grusin - The Graduate (OST)

Also some cool world music LPs from Olympic Records:

Various - Flute Music Of The Andes

Various - The Art Of Japanese Bamboo Flute

Various - Music Of The American Indian

And a good few more that weren't on Discogs, including what seems to be a privately pressed bluegrass LP called "Pickin' In The Bushes" which is actually autographed and dated 1979 by the two guys on the back cover.

  2. I really need Module 2 and Program 11 on vinyl, NOW.

Program 11 is pretty cheap, I think I paid $5 for my copy on Discogs. Module 2 however..that can be pretty scarce. I nabbed mine for $40 I believe.

Yea i know, and then it's the shipment cost as well, and if I'm unlucky the shipment could be like up to 10 euros for 1x 12", so for just Program 11 i could get it for (and i just checked) 6.5 euros including the shipment, that was very cheap for a mint condition 12", anyways I'm on a very tight budget these days and records aren't my priority, the record will still be there :) no limited pressing or so!Buit

But thanks for the heads up, and Module 2 would cost me 50 euro's, it's worth every penny but i don't got it heh..

anyways, I'll get it soon enough :)

Yeah, it took me YEARS to finally own a handful of my favorite Rephlex LPs...Module 2 and Cylobian Sunset were probably the hardest to hunt down for a mildly-affordable price. Just keep saying this:

  3. I'm of the opinion that all three tracks from the extra 12" with Desktop Robotics are three of his BEST TRACKS EVER!

yes indeed. but close behind comes the progam 11 ep on Elypsia. that one is also beautiful.

Program 11 is my all time favourite I think

Program 11 is definitely in my top 3, right next to Desktop and Module 2. You just cannot beat those three. At all.

  4. Environments: The Magic of Psychoacoustic Sound - Disc 8 and 10

"Wood Masted Sailboat" is my favorite on 8, really lush, but then like you said all of it is!

If you can find them, my favorites are easily "Intonation" on #7 and "Tintinnabulation" on #2. "Intonation" is like this dense vocal OM but with the attack cut down and the sounds infinitely seamlessly overlapping. "Tintinnabulation" is a minimal piece with lightly touched bells, which you'd assume would sound like Mood Bells but instead it sounds quite like SAW II to me, given the microtonality of the changes. Absolutely essential stuff!

  5. Wow nice find. How much was it?

$50 even! Which isn't bad at all considering it's NM, and musically it could be the strongest piece of Gas vinyl there is. I paid $40 each for Pop and Konigsforst, and I got the s/t 3LP in a trade, so once I have Zauberberg and the Modern EP, I've got it all!

  6. Perhaps one of the Holy Grails of electronic music vinyl is finally mine now. In NM condition, no less...

And probably most shocking of all, is that I won it on eBay totally uncontested. I have fantasized about having this for years now and I always thought it would end in a bidding war somewhere.

  7. the Deftones and Korn have always been on the metal side of juggalo. They've both played if im not mistaken at the yearly juggalo fest and are appreciated often by fans of ICP

also watch the Salem show at SXSW if that isnt ICP on ketamine inspired then my name is George W Bush

this theory is just making even more sense as time goes on, and for that i'm extremely happy

Robbie, I normally agree with your posts, so I sincerely hope in this case you are either inebriated or taking the piss.

    Because this is quite hilarious.

EDIT: Also who gives a shit if ICP fans like the Deftones? Shouldn't we be happy to hear they're moving on to something that (most can agree) has much more merit?

EDIT2: I think I'd believe your theory if Max Cavalera and Maynard James Keenan collaborated with ICP. Then we'd be talking.

  8. holy shit, it's my lucky day.. just snagged a brand new copy of the yagya - rhythm of snow double lp for $24.

    Yagya+-+Rhythm+Of+Snow.jpeg

$24! how does that happen?? the next closest listed was a VG+ copy for $89.

    Nice one!

And welcome to the club!

My most recent vinyl purchases haven't really been purchases, I've just acquired them:

    Gimmik - Slow Motion Process

    CiM - Noki Bay

    F.U.S.E. - Dimensions

AFX - Analord 1/3/4/5/6/7/8/11 (completed my set, already had 2 and 9)

    Aphex Twin - Analord 10

    Cex - Role Playa

    Decapod Claw / PAL:NDROM - Split

    Nudge / If.Then.Else - Split

    Various - ōmco

And of course just preordered this:

    Gescom - Skull Snap

  9. mrs. alcofribas got me koenigsforst on vinyl for xmas and i think that particular version is my favorite gas record. it really elevated the gas experience for me. definitely worth whatever ridiculous money she dropped on it.

    Your wife is awesome.

  10. Thanks a lot xxx!!! Here's the Rebbull interview...really nice one

    http://www.redbullmusicacademy.com/video-archive/lectures/wolfgang_voigt_gas_amp_killer/#

Thanks for the Dettinger tips! I heard him on all the "pop ambient" compilations but he never stood out, his album seems very nice tho!

Thanks for that track MellowU, very nice :D

And you all really have to check out Ulf Lohmann!!! Amazing music! The EP froxen field is out of this world!

    Cheers!

And I second the Dettinger thing: I've been totally addicted to him in the last year and managed recently to nab a copy of the Intershop CD on eBay for only $5. Everything the man has done is golden.

  11. There has been a lot of speculation about what Voigt sampled for Gas. He made reference to Schlager, Bavarian folk, guitar treatments, etc. but nothing specific. I think this sample I stumbled on to is as likely as anything because the "Isle Of The Dead" (Die Toteninsel) painting by Böcklin is very famous in Germany. Freud had it in his office. I'm sure the accompanying tribute by Rachmaninoff was not a rare item in home record collections for someone of Voigt's age.

Since you guys liked the sample (kick or no), all 6 movements are below, PM me if they need re'upped. They are quite grim and really match the painting itself. I can't find anything online about the collection I have so I posted some pics. P.S. I'm no photographer so...

    Isle Of The Dead

    Re-up please?

I grabbed this when it was posted and forgot to come back to comment...so I will now:

HOLY FUCK THIS WAS GREAT! THANKS XXX!

  12. The second one I was absolutely psyched to find for $6 in a store that usually has absolutely nothing good in terms of selection, the cover is in perfect condition but it's fairly crackly as it plays (although Bibio's earlier stuff sounds better that way!)

$6! very jealous about that. i bought this vinyl on discogs a few months back for quite a bit

I know, my friends didn't understand why I nearly jumped out of my skin when I found it! I have no idea how it ended up in that crappy store, again the quality of the disk itself isn't that great but it doesn't make much of a difference when it comes to early Bibio! :yeah:

Also, since my last post this has become my most recent possession...

    limbs.jpg

is that cardboard sleeve on top from the CD version of the release?

No, the CD comes with the "newspaper album" version, that's what it looks like in there.

nice! a friend of mine gave me this newcomb a few years back:

    2876643817_b21e0e7ceb.jpg

how is the sound of these? can you even attach them to an amp? I am tempted to buy one they look nice and the price is very cheap

My T-50 sounds fantastic - big and fat like you'd expect a player like that to sound! Though...I paid $200 for that one. Not sure what the cost of the smaller models are, and I'm pretty sure those have less features too (not as many speeds, probably no EQ control). However I can confirm that pretty much all the Newcombs should be able to be plugged into an external amp, as many of their players were used for dance-calling.

  14. Haha, I have that same exact one with the syringe on the cover! And high5 for the Environments LPs - have you got the one with "Tintinnabulation" yet? That's my fave.

haha, yeah.. it's as if it's there to say "our sound is so pure you can inject it into your veins".

the environmental lp's were a lucky find in the $3 dollar bin on record store day, i had remembered you mentioning them a while back. only have the two so far but they are excellent.

the testimonials on the back are pretty entertaining as well:

    QC4QR.jpg

    "room seemed brighter" ..lol

Yeah wait'll you get the one that says "Better than alcohol and safer than pot" on the cover!

fuck, digging in bargain bins in the UK is such an unfair advantage.

oscillik gets Mantronix, I would get Oak Ridge Boys

You should get out more, xxx - I go thrifting all the time and find loads of cool stuff. Then again, I'm well into stuff like Sinatra and symphonic stuff, which regularly crops up in thrift stores here...though I did get my first copy of Cybotron's "Clear" in a Goodwill...
