  1. Reading The Map and The Territory by Houllebecq. Brilliant :) I really like this man

Alright, finished it last night. Gotta say, this one is 9/10 which is a miracle in my eyes. Perfectly executed message.

  2. watching House of Cards. I have mixed feelings about it - Kevin Spacey is sometimes great and sometimes just plain annoying (with his fake southern accent). my next problem with it is something I hate in a lot of shows: the political aspect is dumbed down and it seems like all work in the USA government is done by a few individuals. I mean cmon, the government is a huge beast and stuff happens EVERY DAY. but I guess you can't make a character-driven show in such a large infrastructure without dumbing it down. the reporter girl is hot.

  3. I've finished The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. I think this was my 6th or 7th book by Murakami - and it was one of his best and also one of his most disjointed. The majority of the book is about the main character who has absolutely no clue whatsoever what the fuck's going on and I can clearly see Murakami behind his writing desks similary having no clue about the plot. But the book is still - and maybe just because of it - strangely human and warm. I recommend it.

  4. Ok, I think this is the first Actress release I totally get - R.I.P. had some gems that Ghettoville doesn't come close to, but on the other hand some songs were just terrible for my taste. Ghettoville sounds much more unified. Will listen some more for sure.

  5. 12 year a slave - pretty devastating overall, the acting was great (especially fassbender, who plays the most interesting character in the film), there are many incredible scenes and it mostly manages to avoid cliches and goes into the the guts (psychological and sociological aspects) of slavery instead of just dramatization. i can't tell if periodization was done right because i'm not familiar with u.s history at all but it felt very well done to me anyway. there were some jarring and strange choices in regards to editing and music though (mostly in the beginning), and that fucking brad-pitt-the-film's-producer-speech that felt like it came from a different movie.

I have to agree. On point. 9 or 8/10

  6. Felt pretty solid to me. Care to put your complaint in spoiler tags?

Alright, at first I was baffled how can Rooney Mara set up Catherine Zeta-Jones with a wire while not incriminating herself. Then I checked the plot on wiki and noticed the double-jeopardy rule when you can't trial a person twice for the same crime. OK, let's say this works even tho it is not nearly enough exposed (this double-jeopardy was briefly mentioned in the middle of the movie). So, if they can lock up Catherine Zeta-Jones for conspiracy in murder they must know that Rooney Mara was also sober and guilty of a first-degree murder, even if they can't trial her again, yes? Then explain me this: if everybody (the police, the judges, etc.) knows she isn't sick, how come the doctor (Jude Law) can still declare her non-fit for society and crazy? She's not crazy! This is now a known fact! So they couldn't lock her up in the mental bin again because it would be against the rules.

  7. Side Effects

This was a steady 7/10, it grabbed me and I was getting quite involved - until the ending came. What the hell? How could Soderbergh leave such a gigantic plothole in it? I don't want to spoil anything but if you have a pinch of intelligence in your head you too would be offended by it. The plot hole is like a gaping asshole destroyed by a stampedo of money-hungry producer dicks. Too bad. 3/10

  8. well I read the slovenian translation which was done by a single translator... so I don't think this is the case for me. the third book still feels different, more spacious, without a clear high-point

  9. the first and the second part of 1Q84 are some of the finest writing and world-creating I've read. it should have ended there, because the third part, even if not really bad, just lacks the energy of the first two. I heard that Murakami first published the first two parts and then in a year decided to add the third act, which is a shame I think.

  10.

Watched The Master again. Seriously this film gets better and better with every viewing. Most definitely a modern classic. So beautifully shot, so tightly written and so well acted. 10/10

i'm starting to agree. a singular film.

    yup. definitely a grower

  11. Anyone interested in documentary film must see The Act of Killing. It's the most fascinating, brutal, honest, true thing I've seen, probably ever. I saw it last night and was just dumbstruck by it. It'll take a while to digest and review properly. Not for the faint of heart. What strange creatures we are...

yes. this one was a beast. recommended.

  12. When I first saw The Master, I also thought it wasn't engaging enough. But it stuck in my head for a while and I just kept thinking about it, so then, when I saw it for the second time, I finally "got" it. It is a masterfully subtle film, with dramaturgy like no other, where the little flickers, reactions and body movements make up the story. The relationship between The Master and Freddie is of course the center of the film. They are like two dots, each on the other end of the spectrum, but they have so much in common that it's frightening. And in the end Freddie himself becomes The Master and The Master becomes a puppet of his own cult and his wife. Beautifully done.

  13. Idioterne (The Idiots) - this is one of the best films I saw in my life. So authentic in what it was trying to achieve... This is just on another level of film-making. I think this is pure Von Trier and I'm kind of sad that his newer films (yeah, Melancholia, it's you) just don't strike these same chords as The Idiots did. 10/10

  14. Solyaris is a strange dude from Italy, not very known, who makes beautiful music with just a loop machine and a guitar. His music is hard to get by but you could find it on what.cd or you can even PM me.

This reminds me of fuzzy orange beehive:
