  1. I had my Facebook gone for a while and it was good, but I had to reanimate it because I have a friend who has no other way to communicate with me. I don't use it for anything else, though, and have a fake name on it with no images of myself. Facebook doesn't have to be a big part of your life, just don't even think about putting any real information on it (especially photos of yourself or people you know).

  2. Technology is evil, but it's also difficult to detach from. In theory I'm pro-forest, but in practice I'm pro-technology. I wouldn't call myself part of a "hive," though, as that implies that I actually get passionate about anything, which I don't. Opinions are all pointless, and that includes the opinion of whatever "hive" is running things.

  3. I'm thinking about buying Undertale and Hatoful Boyfriend at the moment. Both are very, very good from what I've seen, so it's tempting.

I just bought both of these and now I don't know which to play first. I wish I would have thought of this before getting them both at the same time. I guess I'll just play piano and read a bit until a decision comes to me.

I'm re-reading the Fellowship of the Ring and enjoying it thoroughly. That's the advantages of having an absolutely awful memory, I can re-read a book and still be surprised by the contents.

Yeah, that's something I've wanted to do for a while, since it's been a long time and I wasn't aware of all the theological themes the book had the first time I read it. Joyce is keeping me really interested at the moment, though.

Going through the Council of Elrond again keeps me from ever re-reading that one.

Tom Bombadil and the Entmoot are the two parts that I remember as being particularly dreadful to read through. The Ent part has a really great payoff at the end, though.

But it's been years, so I don't know how accurate my memory is.

  6. I've been reading A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce, and this is completely different from that I was expecting. Of all of the things I was prepared for, this just came out of nowhere, and it's incredible. So far, I'm enjoying this vastly more than Dubliners. For something that started out so innocent, it's getting dark as hell (literally).

Also I got a big stack of really nice philosophical books at a book sale for dirt cheap, so I've been reading a bit of The Critique of Pure Reason, which is also getting very interesting in a different way.

  7. I just remembered that I managed to set up Max for Live a while ago and set it aside in order to get around to it later. Unfortunately, I have no idea what is possible with it, so I didn't know where to start.

You folks here said something about it having a lot of capabilities involving how it interacts with the DAW, so could any of you give a brief demonstration of this? For example, I'd like to know whether its possible to send data from one device into a receive object in another track, because if it isn't, then it'll significantly limit the way I like to use Max (that is, having pretty much every aspect of every track either influencing or influenced by another aspect in another track, and so on).

Aside from that, it seems like M4L will make MIDI configurations much easier, cutting out all the annoying bits, and it'll also make it easier to fuse manual and generative sequencing together.

i seriously don't know how you could claim to be into vaporwave yet not understand that these tapes would make a great resource for it.

When did I claim to be into vaporwave?
then gtfo the thread if all you want to do is show how above us you are. do you go into a church and dance around going 'oh hey that jesus guy? what a piece of shit lolol.'

I'm a Christian and I don't want to show how above you I am.

  9. i don't know many people that tried it and didn't like it, unless they were just into recording bands or whatever. don't let the "cartoonish" gui fool you into thinking ableton doesn't sound as good or is as serious as other daws. it was designed by monolake to get the idm out of your brain and into a waveform in the most intuitive way possible :D best of luck!

Ableton Live makes everything much more complicated if you're trying to do more than just structure a series of tracks and mix them together. Max is significantly easier for any sort of sequencing and manipulation of audio, especially if you want different signals to interact with each other at various points. I think Max for Live is probably the best way to go to get the best out of sequencing, interaction, arrangement, and mixing. I've never actually tried M4L myself, though, because I just use Max to play around without actually caring about making full songs out of it, sort of like an aural sandbox.

  10. i already made a song out of one of the songs in the kmart tapes

there's a lot of good stuff in the tapes, most of the full songs could easily be found elsewhere on youtube / itunes but the tape quality adds a little something. there also is some more generic instrumental stock music which is much harder to track down, even with apps like shazaam. and then occasionally you get the odd announcement or ad with no bg music, just the voice. they might get in trouble with the DCMA and all that, though. i feel like even using kmart in the title is enough to attract takedowns! fair use needs to be updated...how would something like this have any real negative impact on kmart or the artists whose songs appear? it's not like I was going to buy a bananarama album, and then decided not to because I cropped the one song of theirs out of this mp3 and popped it on my ipod in a transcoded form. rant rant rant :catrage:

I really don't see the point of vaporwave when we already have this. This is the real deal. March 1990 has some real gems in it. Better than anything you'll find on Beer On the Rug.

I think I'm finally convinced - I wanna get the hell out of Alaska by next spring. It was like coming home to a ghetto after my AE NA trip.

Come on, Alaska isn't a ghetto. You don't know how good it seems compared to where I moved to. Ever since I got to Southern Maryland, all I've wanted was to go back to Alaska.

When was the last time you were there?

Lately it seems like there's someone getting shot or stabbed every week...large pickups racing down the highway and Fast and Furious wannabes screaming down city streets in their gay-ass spoiler cars...shitty bars...understaffed law enforcement...meth addicts all over...in Anch at least. Maybe I've been living here too long, but I swear it's gotten more chaotic over the past five years.

I haven't been there in about five years, but I would be surprised if it's really changed that much in that short amount of time. When I left it was the nicest place in the world.

  12. People re-encoding low quality mp3s into 320kbps mp3s and posting them online are my biggest FWP right now. Why is this so common? Makes absolutely no sense. What is anybody gaining from this? Almost makes me want to stop pirating music altogether... but I don't think I could afford my old CD-buying ways right now. Oh yeah, and the gaps!!! I've received legit digital downloads directly from labels where there's gaps between all tracks including the ones that are supposed to flow together. Why the gaps???

This makes me glad I'm on What.CD. But if you go to Rutracker, the files there are normally not transcodes.
