    Richard. Is. Just. Getting. Started.

    *gets ready*

    this fucking gif

is it from that furry glam rock cartoon film? I forget its name. "Edgy Glam Rock Furries" I guess.

"Cool World" with Kim Basinger and Brad Pitt fromthe early 90s.

Ah. 4% on Rotten Tomatoes, guess I'm not missing out on much. I was thinking of Rock & Rule.

  2. I'm just glad Warp are not making any money from these tracks and that we, the fans, are enjoying this moment with an artist we like.

Desintermediation is the way to go. :)

record companies abuse their power, I don't think anyone can deny that, but I think for most folks looking to do physical distributions, use studio time, get mastering services, promote themselves, organise gigs and stuff, they don't have the money or time for it.

I can't see intermediaries for music ever going away, really. Richard is a very unique case due to his infamy and previous success.

What the fuck are Warp making of all this?

I really doubt Warp and RDJ have anything other than a very relaxed contract or agreement. I don't think RDJ likes any control at all over his work, and Warp probably provide the distribution and marketing and not much else, and Rich is probably very happy with that if he still releases through them/Bleep. It's not like Rich is going to need much cash to cover mastering (does he do that stuff himself? I forget), and he has his own studio to work and record in, so with Warp providing very little, they can't demand very much back.

Contracts come in all different "shapes and sizes" so there is no need to assume Warp hold rights over his work, it could just be the distribution/marketing of it.

edit: That being said, they're probably missing out on a lot of dosh, but probably not much they can do about it.

The "Barry's Bangers" splattering of the google docs a couple of days ago claimed CCAI was a contract breaker, which seems to match with an interview given years ago about how after 'Drukqs' he had 2 albums to go on his Warp contract (if my memory serves me at all, which is debatable.)

Interesting, might tie in to his idea of closing an era or however he put it in Syro interviews, as well.

Absolutely my favourite ambient work. Only physical release is on cassette though, not really a format I have much desire to appreciate.

And oh yes Tim Hecker is amazing. Every album is so meticulously crafted, although I wasn't entirely taken by Virgins. I've heard he's looking to release another album this year, though.

    Anybody knows more about this?

    http://vid27.photobucket.com/albums/c170/RonSean/IMG_0308.mp4

It seems to be an extremely shaky recording of an afx logo, too spooky.

Well it was posted by rdj.

I dare say that looks like a lit button on a machine with an Aphex Twin logo on it. Maybe a RDJ designed piece of hardware is about to become a reality!?

    joyrex pls

  6. Everyone in the media has sort of portrayed RDJ as some cruel autistic fucktard over his career, and both from his actions, interviews, and comments he just seems like a nice guy who likes his privacy. And the sheer generosity of dumping all of his 20+ year old tunes out there is impressive.

I seem to remember at the end of his show at Warehouse Project Manchester in 2011 he just had "KILL YOURSELF" in some eye cutting font on the screen behind him at the end of the show, I just think he has kind of a love-hate relationship with fans, probably to do with how much he likes his privacy. His reaction to some of the negative comments on his CCAIP2 kinda shows he's still only human with bad feedback. Hopefully the sheer volume of love for this archive drowns out the minority of folks who don't like it.

god i hope by saying he needs to get better internet to upload these tracks means he's planning on uploading them in lossless... of course 320 would be good too

it would make sense, lossless for 100+ tracks is a lot of data to upload. Don't think they exactly have fibre up there in a small Scottish town.

He doesn't have to re-upload. He just gives the permission to that track to be downloadable and that's it! I hope he uploaded them lossless when he first uploaded them though.

ah okay, wonder why he needs better Internet for that though?
