Do we really have 300 tracks to go? Richard pleeeez drukqs.

I'm still not quite ready to let myself believe it'll even reach 300, but I'm crossing every finger I own in hopes of some Drukqs outtakes.

Whenever this "ends" it's going to feel weird, a comedown from a long, amazing audio trip.

yeah I feel like I'm getting conditioned to these daily thrills. I get a bit giddy when I come back to more tunes to experience. honestly thought we'd just be getting just an old tape uploaded, sounds like we've been given the keys to the archives instead. Definitely need to expect the comedown...

Yeah Sean said in the AAA thread that the whole AE was Warp's "property".

Wow, really? I am surprised they agreed to that. Maybe they just don't care as much.

I thought they owned not only ae but also there irl name more or less, so they can't, or at least its very difficult to ever release music anywhere but warp?

Dang, maybe Warp really does hold a lot of sway over the Twin too.

What the fuck are Warp making of all this?

    they're fucking pissed

How does these label deals even work? Surely you don't sign away all your material when doing a deal and you can release outtakes whathaveyou however you want? Or?

As I posted above, it really depends on the deal. These days contracts are very varied. Some artists opt to sign away all of their output to a company, and in return they'll receive distribution, marking, and funds for mastering and studio time. Often the funds given are a kind of a loan to be paid back through revenue so they have to keep outputting work to pay back the cash. I imagine with an artist who works as different as RDJ, the contract is a bit "different" too, but who knows.

The voice from "make a baby" seems to be from the same kid on hangable auto bulb

I think that track is an early version of Every Day, yeah.

  4. What the fuck are Warp making of all this?

I really doubt Warp and RDJ have anything other than a very relaxed contract or agreement. I don't think RDJ likes any control at all over his work, and Warp probably provide the distribution and marketing and not much else, and Rich is probably very happy with that if he still releases through them/Bleep. It's not like Rich is going to need much cash to cover mastering (does he do that stuff himself? I forget), and he has his own studio to work and record in, so with Warp providing very little, they can't demand very much back.

Contracts come in all different "shapes and sizes" so there is no need to assume Warp hold rights over his work, it could just be the distribution/marketing of it.

edit: That being said, they're probably missing out on a lot of dosh, but probably not much they can do about it.

Surely RDJ owns the copyrights to his own songs, but Warp might have exclusive distribution rights to certain ones, and that language might reach to alternative versions too.

The way I understand most record contracts, I'd more quickly assume it to be the other way around.

It really depends on the contract. Either case is possible.
