  1. eh, Mr James is on this imaginary 'No.1' perch in his fan's minds because of idol worship/cult of personality.

AE overtook him in the music stakes a long, long time ago.

If you asked him he'd probably admit that himself.

    +1

else-q 1 and 4 are my fav. My contention is more with tracks that are 23-27 minutes long that sound like subtly changing parameters in max patches, a few plinky plonks with no progression, that are getting near universal appraise. And then reading that I prefer a sick album like Syro only because of idolatry not because I actually enjoy that music more.

    obligatory :derp:

edit: I know spi didn't say of what I just said. I just haven't had mah coffee yet.

Hate syro; sounds like fruity loops (super boring). Love mesh and elyc6 (epic, oceanic), so there it is...the division bell.

  3. A fucking beast, indeed. Still ahead of its time. Relistened to it a few times recently. Love Bine and Lentic Catechecresis. Also noticed how the end of that track reminds me of the beginning of Gantz Graf.

IMO only: the bonus track MCR Quarter shows their previous mastery of the banger while demonstrating the necessity of breaking the ceiling into something more abstract, like they took the banger as far as it could go and they needed to explore new territory. I'm obviously a late/more abstract AE is better kind of fan Lolol

  4. Think I'll pass on the live and elseq cards, but only because I bought both posters (and paid hefty when considering shipping costs). Unfortunately for me, that 3rd poster has to be an instabuy to complete the collection, and those oversteps cards are tempting, in spite of (or maybe because of?) their absurdity.

  5. Great recording and set. Thanks to both AE and the mysterious recorder! (Would really love the FLAC file)

This new live set is phenomenal; really digging that last track (last 10 minutes). First half of the last 10 minutes has Overstepper qualities; and what happens after that is so indescribable...

Really, the whole latter set after "cathedral"/black metal stabs...

  7. I've been living in these new sets; so raw. Big thanks again for those who have recorded and those who will record. Hopefully the boys will release the soundboards, but I'm reasonably fearful as they always do something different when I think I know what's next. ;-)

Is that a MacBook? I thought they were on Windows machines?

All screenshots and talk was ever around Mac, where do you got your impression?

It's funny they also put stickers on the apple as do every other laptopian, so non-conformist, boys are there to not sell out.

Good question, I dunno really. I guess their laptops always looked black in pictures, so I assumed they were? Never put too much thought into it honestly. Also I've always heard that Max runs better on Windows, so maybe I just assumed with that information?

they've always used macs according to the AAA but also had windows machines around for other things. toured w/macs though.. they talk about it in interviews and the AAA. "getting their programs stable" etc. getting a new mac w/touchstrip etc means running OS X sierra which i doubt they're running since things are only now becoming stable on that OS.

Haven't listened to it yet; better than nothing

thanks! sounds great but sound cuts out every 10 or 15 seconds for me even though the youtube is still playing. some gaps in there.

Yeah; those gaps make it essentially unlistenable for me (more than once at least); still glad I heard it.

Eh what a stupid thread. Sorry to be that guy.

    But

Nobody sounds like Autechre. Nobody. Nobody has honed in like them and created such a diverse sound

But goddamn there is nobody with the insane focus and depth and structure as Autechre,

Autechre are real auteurs, they're like the Stanley Kubrick or Tarkovsky of electronic music. They boldly go wherever the fuck they want. They seem to be very conscious of the cliches that abound in the medium, or maybe just so focused on and experienced at finding the sounds they like or mutating things until they suit them until it really, really sounds like Autechre.

Almost every other current electronic musician seems to be aping something. It seems really fucking hard not to.

    Needed to be said
