  1. I always though that the beat in radiohead's "idiotheque" was obviously directly inspired by ae's "laughing quarter".

tough, I never really listened to radiohead.

...ps : oh ! Hello Sean.

  2. ha ! would be more easy (or say, relevant)  for me to pick "fav albums" rather tha "fav era". I discovered ae in 1999, to put in context.

would shift over times obviously, and it's very subjective ,but i guess that's the subjective point of view from everyone that you're asking for.

"untilted" might be the one wich would keep on top favs while time goes. for many  reason I won't talk about (too long)

yeah ok untilted / quaristice (+ related livesets) if I really had to chose a specific era.

adding chiastic, LP5 and exai If i had to choose within a larger scale of selection.

Then Exai for me is a sort of bringing all of it together, very rich and dense sound-wise, rhythm-wise, sort of a all-arounder.

yeah same feeling here. tought it still have it's own particular overall ambience, so can't sum up the whole thing (well obviously nothing would sum them up, as long as they've been doing so many things) but exai is a big thing.

and well yeah more to this,  like many of you, some fav tracks of mine are  in elseq / nts sessions

and well yeah, amber / garbage ep / tri rep has some fav ambient tracks of mine.

so.., yeah ...it's hard to narrow it to a particular era / album

yeah, yeah ,yeah then, well ....yeah  twisting-mind-ae-threads  :emotawesomepm9:

........edit : did I also mention confield ? and move of ten ?  ....... errr ...how dare I think I would awnser to this in a concise way ? I failed. hahahah

  3. yeah pretty much "+1" on everything you guys said here about this track, I agree

loving it and yeah that melody (that kind of struggle out to emerge at the end) make that track intense emotionally speaking, out of the forefront spooky vibe

  4. Hey, I've been listening to this Replication VERY LOUD on the soundsystem of the concert venue where I work.

12 000 watts Electrovoice line array system with 12x 18" subbass speakers, this being feed trough a high-end analogue Midas mixing desk.

I can tell you that's a fucking blast.

for fun, I even considered setting up a stereo pair of good condenser mics in the venue, to record it and then mix it back with IOS and DIGIT work,

to add some live room flavour to it, so it get even closer to a real ae live experience (though, it would still miss some crowd noises haha)

Is there such a thing as a midi filter...something I can stick in front of the mks-70 in the chain that will take in 16 midi channels and output just 1. Google suggests yeah this probably exists, but I have no knowlidj.

If that exists then fuck it, I'll just get one of them and the behringer

yeah, if i understand correctly your issue, you cannot tell your mks-70 to react only to , i.e. , channel 1 from the 16-channles-midi-data-feed from a midi output port.

so, I guess, as you suggest, you could use a single dedicated usb-to-midi device (can find very cheap ones wich works ok), wich would be used ony  to feed midi to your mks-70. because even if your mks-70 reacts to every 16 midi channels from wich you could'nt choose a single midi channel, it won't be a probleme as far as there's no other midi data going thru another device after this one, so midi data received by mks-70 won't be shared or merged with something else down the path.

i.e. a midi out port from your soundcard would feed any of your devices (say, a midi dasy-chain feeding  multiple synth, with channel 1 going to synth 1, channel 2 going to synth 2 etc....up to 16 different synths or drum machines or whatever, as long as you have 16 midi channles per midi output ports )

and then another dedicated midi out port wich would only feed your mks-70, regardless of wich midi channel will be used from this port)

well, fair enough, ifyou have something that have at least 2 midi output ports (a soundcard or a multi-out usb to midi device, like the motu micro lite suggested by mr. Braintree in the post above) it would works, so you won't need 2 different midi-able devices but only one.

    (I hope I'm clear ?

How dare you post the cartoon versions when there's a version with Monica Belucci around.

hahaha ! well , I did'nt watch that movie version yet .(meaning : with real actors, not cartoon, I guess you were talking about that).

I'm afraid this would be vulgaire and bit dumbstyle, idk... like, more for adults looking for easy entertainement... no more magic...

I've been told it's quite ok, though...

edit : .... well i might go and see what monica b. looks like in it....:emb:

  7. well, for a start : what is your budget ?

I'm very very happy with my RME firefcae UC, since 7 years and counting.

but this will cost you around 800 €, wich is not cheap.

    https://www.rme-audio.de/fireface-uc.html

8 analogue inputs (first 2 of them are either (good) mic preamps or jack TRS line level inputs

8 analogue outputs (6 balanced line level outs+ 1 stereo phone out, wich can be use as an extra (unbalanced) line level output with appropriate cable)

2 midi inputs + 2x midi ouptuts (tight and fast)

a bit of digital I/O (works perfectly for my D-two delaly, M3000 reverb, i.e.,  or as digital lossless input / feed from / to  other digital devices)

iirc you have option for USB version or firewire version, so usb ok for you (USB 2.0 iirc , not 3.0, but does ok)

very very low latency, and comes along with a dedicated in-the-box mixing / routing solution wich is very powerful while being quite simple to  setup.

been using for my music (studio and livesets) and fo some recordings of live shows at the venue where I'm working. (either for 2-track from desk, or for some 8-tracks stem busses)

I can tell you it's a workhorse, solid built, and the A/D    and D/A converters quality are really good. (not as pristine as top high end dedicated AD/DA converters, but still way ahead than a lot of soundcards in this range of price )

appart from this, for a lower budget, as some folks said above, the focusrite "scarlett" products line are really nice  too.

Hilda graphic novels + the Netflix series. Such an excellent, empowering series for young girls.

    cool thanks, looks very nice

  9. Oh ! nice thread. big up to all watmm dads !!!

I have two girls. 4 years old and 8 month old.

I'll start with  music for bedtime / naptime / background (I enjoy a lot taking care of the selection for them:)

BRIAN ENO (many of them), ERIK SATIE, CAMILLE SAINT SAENS, some classical wood / flutes orchestra, PLASTIKMAN "consumed",   ATOM TM " cold memories", a compilation of TRADITIONAL AFRICAN LULLABIES and other tradtitionals from easter europe and asia, KREIDLER "weekend", POLE "3", some  AUTECHRE (softer ones from early albums / eps, altough some recent ones do well, i.e. column thirteen, freulaeux, pendulu casual, shimripl air....), APHEX TWIN "s.a.w vol.2" (some would think some tracks could be too dark and spooky for children, but this album actually never get my babies afraid or crying or whatever. though they've been used to it since their very first days on earth ?

music for dancing / party etc : my 4 year old enjoy a lot DEVO, BURNING HEADS, NIRVANA, BAUHAUS, PUBIL ENNEMY, some old school acid house / techno, and some french underground punk bands from her mother's collection...

books : shitloads. very important for us.  .I should make a separate reply to list some I recommend. (will be moslty french writers / illustrators tough, might not be really relevant in here, dunno

movies : I have a weak movies / cartoon culture.  yet : the old "thunderbirds" series is awesome. all the Hayao Miyazaki movies ar great. "les monieurs madames" ("mr men & little miss") does well. "miru miru" does well. "les shadocks" does well.  tbh my wife does better for finding good stuff for 4 yeras old kids.

disney stuff like "bambi" tend to frighten her. I tried "goldorack" for fun, coz she asked for robots, but she seems a bit too young ? on the other hand she enjoyed "albator" ... but lately she's more asking for "paw patrol" because tha'st what her schoolfriend are currently watching

talking about this, I'd like to focus on a thing : Me and my wife are pretty amazed to see some people around us get the easy way to put their child in front of a screen many hours a day, while we put effort in spending time playing or reading with them as much as we can instead of just put them behind a screen an let it go as long as they don't make noise, no matter if goes for hours.  I really think this is bad. of course I'm aware that some of us could have no choice with this due to professional or social or familial context and just strigle to have time to do essentials thing for them so cartoons can help focusing the kids when you really need it. but for some people it's just an easy  way out to some calm. I guess this will be discussed here. anyway I'm quite proud to manage to let my 4 year old only 1 or 2 hours of "passive" screenwatch per week. I'm talking about kids under 6/7 old, of course when they grow we will allow more time, it's ok spending more time on movies / cartoons etc when you're 10 years old. but for example, when we're some adults together and there is a kid with us, some would directly put their child on the IPOD so as their kid "won't disturb the adults talking" . while we would just keep our kid with us, talking with us, and we would just relay each other to play with the kids if they get bored listening and talking with us. yes it takes a lot of time, a bit of a personal sacrifice, but I can tell you it's very rewarding (for you as for the kids) as a result. better talking, better social integration, better managing of their fears, better understanding of what will be their adlut life, and so... well I guess  you see what i'm talking about. and of course, though if we wanna have some real adult time we would bring them to grandma for the weekend (luckily, we still have our mamas alive and able)

(I'm not blaming anyone who let child have lots of time on screen, just whant to share my experience about it)

and I'm willing to have your suggestion for good music / movies for childern !
