    i as i remember, the first OPN i heard was on watmm, from this video that jasondonervan posted of a clip from the memory vague memory vague DVD, and i got into it because it sounded like synthesizer steve reich

    before that, i kept getting oneohtrix point never mixed up with space dimension controller for some reason

    what i love about this is it perfectly demonstrates the way autechre demonstrates an intuitive understanding of post-tonality/microtonality from outside of the joyless academic world of music theory. this is just one of the many examples of them achieving a synthesis of styles and ideas completely organically. this whole track creates 'melodies' and 'harmony' via subtle changes in timbre and the rhythmic elements in a completely left-field manner while remaining somehow catchy and rooted in electro and hip-hop. autechre are DA BEST

    i'm almost wondering if this is a ruse. i get that danny carey probably still uses the same mandala drum pads from the lateralus era, but the drum groove seems to be almost exactly the same form and tempo as 'reflection'. sounds like a cut and paste job from lateralus/10k/APC scraps. same with the other tunes on youtube. not offensively bad, but utterly forgettable. AI generated tool song
