^ive considered grabbing the Subharmonicon a few times…i stop myself every time because most reviewers seem to be in consensus that a lot of the sounds end up pretty same-y. there’s a lot of room in the synth for experimentation with rhythmic weirdness and obv anything with CV modulation can get wild with the right setup to other gear, but on its own the tones of the Subharm seem nice, but not too varied. still got it in the back of my head as a maybe thing some day.

Yeah, I have a lot of fun with subharmonics in general but there's a million ways to do that with CV stuff - function generators, clock dividers, etc. You can get 2-3 rad eurorack modules that approximate the same type of stuff (depending on what you like about the Moog, of course) for that money (and less HP)... or back slowly away from the CV drugs and snag a desktop Hydrasynth for just a little bit more, which comparatively will take you to outer space. Come to think of it, the Hydrasynth has CV too...

Could even get an 0-Coast for less money and that thing can make awesome drums and pretty gnarly basses and leads as well as doing some subharmonic tricks, though there isn't much of a sequencer in it.

Are you performing ? If so, I guess using SC ?

Thanks for asking! I did do an SC set for FC2 and I'm doing a Teletype set for FC3 (which is tomorrow), but I'm going to sit the next one out so I can catch up on other projects.

Thanks also for the reminder; I need to update the FC event thread

had a look at that livecode stuff a while a go. looks really cool tbh but I've never tried it myself. If I get round to using it before september I'll let you know lol

Please do! You might be surprised how fast you pick it up if your mind is in the right place!

Going back to gear used for Lunatic Harness. I know he was using an MPC to perform it live.

I love that there was this phase when so many IDM-adjacent heroes were performing live with an MPC. Aphex and Pan Sonic were among them.

(As far as gear spotting, I recognized several RY30 presets esp. in the title track)

  4. Flash Crash IV is slated for September 4. This will be streamed on the lines_community Twitch channel.

We are looking for live code performers to play a ~20 minute set. Max is strongly preferred, but other platforms are also welcome - previous performances have included ORC/\, SuperCollider, TidalCycles, Teletype, and Druid (Crow). Performing live is great if your network connection and anxiety level allow; pre-recorded is good too.

  5. I'm so stoked for this. I'm grateful that even if Blade Runner 2049 didn't pull in the big Marvel bucks, Villeneuve is still able to get the funding to realize stories that deserve a grand scale.

How's the mono working on the Analogue Pocket?

I emailed them about it a year or so ago and they assured me it should work fine. I do wonder how bad the whine is going to be; it's pretty bad on the DMG even though it's a really cool sounding synth.

Listening now, nice tunes so far.

Sounds like some of the stuff Polypores was doing with his Chaos Blooms and Tempus albums (but he uses modular instead of coding)

I'm keen to know how you program the organic elements into this work - I know very little about live coding but I enjoy a bit of chaos theory, universality, complex systems, space-time intermittency and all that.

Oh interesting, I've never heard of Polypores or those albums! I did the first track which was actually all SC - I didn't live code it but I whipped it up fast and "played" pads/chords by running little snippets. Code is on Github and I can speak to it at least: https://gist.github.com/ryanlaws/576c970edf56b89796b6d79227b9cc86

Most of the performers were using the Monome Teletype which seems fucking amazing. I bought one but I haven't really dug into it yet because I have another SC thing I'm working on for the second Flash Crash stream next weekend: https://flashcrash.net/

Also thanks @Rubin Farr for fixing my embed goof!
