stopped viewing after hearing how he pronounced "autechre". my god. even fandingo got that right.

me too, i mean srsly what is an Audeger ? sounds like an recording software

    Audatechre.

freulaeux is such a chill track

Indeed. I've just discovered this one and it's now a favourite. Remind me a little of 'y7'.

    SO much funkier though.

The last minute of elyc6 sounds like they're using Richard Devine's fancy gear to try and contact the aliens.

they use some interesting "geometric" phase-based synthesis there, not unlike what's used to drive laser animation projectors..

    sounds similar too..

....Anyone run it through an XY scope yet?

  4. Just started playing this on a 5.1 system and the 'coder is doing something to generate rear surround channels for me and it's incredible. Full elseq immersion.

  5. Just chiming in to say I think the whole AE_LIVE/Exai tour patch must be fascinating. The fact that there are so many memorable rhythmic motifs which appear at the same points in the different sets means that there's something very interesting going on - obviously not pure random, but not pure sequencing either due to the way those motifs are slightly skewed each time.

I've equated that patch to having an electronic version of the Bitches Brew band going off. That in itself is something to behold.

Arriving in a month thick with surprise album releases from A-listers like Beyonce, Drake, James Blake, and Radiohead, Autechre’s Elseq might not surpass its peers in terms of buzz or anticipation. But it has definitely got them beat in sheer volume. The five-part series—which was posted to the UK-based electronic duo’s webstore last week—adds up to more than four hours of music, out-clocking it’s peers by a significant margin

    "out-clocking it's peers"...?

Beyonce, Drake, James Blake, and Radiohead are Autechre's "peers"...?

    LOL

What a brilliantly invalid point. Where do they get these writers from?

  7. The Function+Knob trick certainly affects input machines, had quite a few funny instances of this happening live. I think for that P-locking-the-input-machine workaround to work correctly, you have to set a trigger on every single step, and P-lock every step in turn. I haven't tried it though. Might get my head into Machinedrum mode later today and report back.

  8. So straying even further off-topic, but I don't want to create a whole thread for this. At least one more UK date might be happening some time soon, certainly not confirmed at the moment, but seemingly very likely. Local to me so very excited.

  9. So yeah, I've listened to it all, almost twice through, some of it three times through, and it's all excellent. If this is a product of Ae's fan-appeasement process then huge huge huge thanks to Rob & Sean. Whatever it is, my favourite release since Untilted, and part 4 is my favourite of the 5. I can't list my full thoughts here as it would probably get me sectioned...

Some thoughts after reading the thread, particularly on probably-not-purposeful head nods:

13x0 step: Starts out as a rave throwback before being thrown into Ae darkness then back into funky breaks territory. Amazing. Huge grin on the train listening to this for the first time.

pendulu hv moda: Ae tablas hell yeaaaahhhh

latentcall: Instant head-nodder/shoulder-thumper. That second half is soooo Computer World. Try singing Dentaku along. Described the 4th EP/disc/whatever as Computer World for the 21st century...

artov chain: Ae do Burial. Title is perhaps a reference to Art of Noise (as well as obviously Markov chains)?

TBM2: Closest Ae have gotten to porn groove

freulaeux: Ae are opening a fro-yo stand next to their pizzeria imminently

Re. physical releases... how brilliantly shit would all this be as a 5-cassette-boxed-set? It's the kinda thing I'd buy then never ever listen to. I'd also love every track pressed up at 45RPM. Warp should go and develop a >12" vinyl playback system.

The whole accessibility thing crossed my mind too. I don't know why, but parts of this seem instantly rewarding. I look at Elseq4 as a nice gateway into the current Ae sound for any newcomers. All of the above obviously doesn't mean it's pop music, but I think this will become a very important release in time.

With the nature of the tracks (lengths, jam qualities), it strikes me that they may have recorded these whilst on tour together... Interesting, if so, that many are calling this their best work in a while.

I wish I had filmed a reaction video on my first listen(s). I don't think there's been an Autechre release that has gotten me so worked up on the first go.

This is possibly the most rewarding release I've ever encountered.

  10.

just a thought, since we have a very goddam good audience recording of Krakow, someone could easily give the Krakow Soundboard the 'Brian Albers treatment' meaning doing a very good sounding mixture of audience recording & Soundboard. Might not be everybodys cup of tea but i think its worth a try, especially since its probably one that everybody has rinsed the most already making it the least exciting of the 4

    No blatant phase issues?

Going to be a bit phasey, but mixed well it probably won't be a massive problem - I'd start with EQing out the low end from those audience recordings anyway, so that'll minimise problems.

I thought the same after totally digging what I heard today, but wanting some reaction to join in with :P
