  1. Guys, I really hate to tell you this but I think this leak is either fake or incomplete. My guess is incomplete, though if this is real this album is such a change in direction for Ae.

From my calculations which were posted in the orginal Oversteps thread, the album Bleep are putting out digitally is going to be anywhere between 66:45 to 68 minutes in length. This leak comes to 63:38 with Ilanders repeated, so the leak's version of the album should be under 60 minutes in length. In that case, either something's missing or it's a fake

I want to believe. This is awesome so far. Perhaps Ae have put their own faek out?

I removed the extra ilanders in there as well. may not be exact cuts. total length 69min 24sec.

    It is real.

Right, I don't think my download completed then. The file I have here is an m4a and comes in at 63:38.

  2. I'm pretty confident this is real, probably my favourite release of theirs since LP5. If it's a fake it's still fucking awesome.

Indeed, it's fucked up but it's a damn cool sounding album so far. I wouldn't be too surprised if this was a fake by either Ae or some of their mates though. Sean's said in interviews that they have "made fakes" and put stuff out on the web without people grabbing it....

  4.

EDIT: Hmmm.... Treale and Krylon sound strangely like some of gl0tch's work...

    Um, yeah... wtf?

Some of the sounds in those tracks really reminded me of OPSHIC3. Apologies if I'm wrong... perhaps some one is faking your fakes? :whistling:

Seconded that the lack of appearance of a London date is a little bit odd... not sure if it's a letdown or the premise of something coming alongside the date announcement...

  5. Whoever's behind this second fake (or whatever it is) knows what they're doing. Metric modulation in the very first track is pretty well done, a signature Autechre technique and hard to do as well as Ae get it.

  6. being in Montreal I'm in the middle of the acousmatic scene, folks like francis dhomont and robert normandeau, who are all about setting up big multichannel systems in spaces and using a great deal of dynamic range.

holy FUCKING SHIT i swear i'm just going to go back and listen to lady gaga and start dancing pointlessly in the hope that my being a low-iq heathen will offset at least 10 of you acousmatic scene fucks.

THERE IS NO ACOUSMATIC SCENE. THERE ARE ONLY SUPPORT GROUPS!

    Dude, chill.

  7. Short answer: Yes. 24 bit > 16 bit.

    Long answer:

In digital audio storage, you have two key "parameters" - the sampling rate and the quantization depth. The sampling rate defines how often a new level/"voltage"/wave displacement is output and is measured in Hertz, while the quantization depth defines by how much levels are rounded. This is because if you have a binary string of so many bits (i.e. 8bits = 1 byte), that string can only store so many different numbers or in this case levels. Therefore, the more bits you have, the longer the string, the more numbers it can store, so the less something has to be rounded - the levels are more precise.

Hopefully that makes sense. It isn't a great explanation but it should get you there.

  8. I know I don't have to worry. However someone had posted somewhere a preview of the album lasting 4 minutes and I would like to hear it again.

Dude, that 4 minute preview definitely is a fake. It was made by gl0tch who is a member of this very forum.

In my opinion, what you have downloaded as the album is also a fake. However, I might be wrong. Who knows? It's out in two months...

  9. 1. How on Earth haven't those promos leaked on to some kind of filesharing place yet?

    2. How does one go about applying for Warp promos? I do actually write a fair number of reviews on the internet so it would serve a purpose...

The two of these statements combined give me the feeling that if you previously had the chance to get promos, you just blew it...

lol yeah I realise how bad those two statements sound together, though I do usually hold out for albums to actually be released rather than nabbing leaks or digital pre-releases. I did that with Quaristice - almost drove me insane waiting for the special edition to come through the post.

I know most people are good with promos and don't leak them, but there's always usually one that'll let it slip...

  10. The one thing I definitely dislike about new school Autechre is the complete lack of EPs since Gantz Graf. Envane, Cichlisuite, Anti, the Peel sessions, Anvil Vapre, etc. were some of my favorite Autechre. Their albums are great but there's something special about the EPs and in almost all of them they did a great job of making a complete cohesive statement within the space of 3-5 tracks. They were so friggin' good at it. It's a shame they abandoned that but I guess their ideas just don't work in that format anymore.

Well they did release the Quadrange stuff but I never really saw that as an EP. I agree though, going back to some of those EPs I had totally forgotten about has been awesome. I listened to Cichlisuite for weeks on end when I first bought it and I'll probably go back to doing the same now.

    Couple of things:

    1. How on Earth haven't those promos leaked on to some kind of filesharing place yet?

    2. How does one go about applying for Warp promos? I do actually write a fair number of reviews on the internet so it would serve a purpose...

  11. Not sure if this is old news but from what I've worked out the album will be 67-68 minutes long (i.e. a good length :D ).

The 24 bit WAV is of a higher quality however please be aware the file size is larger than the 16 bit version and there will be compatibility issues with some music players. (24 bit – 1.06gb / 16 bit – 720mb)

    16 bit:

    720,000,000 bytes (*8)

    = 5,760,000,000 bits (/44100)

    = 130612 (/16)

    = 8163 (/2)

    = 4082 seconds (/60)

    = 68 minutes

    24 bit:

    1,060,000,000 bytes (*8)

    = 8,480,000,000 bits (/44100)

    = 192,290 (/24)

    = 8012 (/2)

    = 4006 seconds (/60)

    = 67 minutes

    Sad or what?
