  1. I tried to edit my post, but it didn't work. It was a little unbalanced. I think that if Aphex Twin does release a new album, it could be incredible, but for whatever reason it might end up being disappointing. With Squarepusher, I meant since Ultravisitor AND Square Window/Venus No. 17 - and I think Hello Everything had its moments. But I stick by the downward spiral - especially in terms of mastering/production. I don't think BoC will put out anything, unfortunately. :(
  2. I think either the Autechre or Plaid release will be 'best' album. Autechre, because they really still care about making their stuff sound quality, and because I can trust them to push things in whatever surprising new directions they want. I expect it'll be beautifully produced and will be surprising enough to prevent boredom. Plaid, because (unlike lots of people) I thought Spokes and Greedy Baby were both quite brilliant, because their last few soundtracks have been lush, and because they seem sincere with what they do and again won't skimp on quality. I miss those Plaid melodies. I know Aphex Twin has produced some amazing music, but I'm not sure he will even actually release anything anyway - and apart from Fenix Funk 5 and XMD5A, I was pretty unimpressed with the rest of the Analords. There's also been a fair few pranks and duds shat out by him, which leave me somewhat wary. The Tuss was of course very special, though I'm still not sure it was down to him alone. There was once a time where I would be excited about a new Squarepusher album, but I really don't find his new direction (and the overall 'sound') of any of his stuff since Ultravisitor particularly arresting. It's been pretty much a clear downward spiral with him, imho.
  3. Good music is good music, whether Autechre made it or not.
  4. Well, at least he said it's "more fleshed out" than Quaristice.
  5. Actually, I know what you mean about the name. And I miss the days when Autechre used cool sounding made up words for song titles. I know this kind of music isn't 'about' anything and so the titles aren't that important, but if you are going to title songs using nonexistent words or phrases, you may as well make them sound good (or look good). 'Confield' was the last album with a great sounding title, and the track titles on that album were pretty awesome.
  6. I'm so impatient. I just want to listen to thing RIGHT NOW. Still, it's nice to have something to look forward to in life - like a new Autechre album.
  7. I think that promo sounds great. I'm not sure it really is Ae - it probably isn't - but the people who are saying it can't be must have very selective hearing when it comes to Autechre. There are moments in Quaristice, and especially on tracks related to that release (the extra versions and stuff like Blyz Castl) which are pretty "obvious" in comparison recent Autechre works, which sound nowhere near as subtle or refined as Draft or Confield or even Untilted. So, while I think the promo mix is great and that some of Autechre's newest material could easily be heading in a more brash and obvious direction, I still think it doesn't sound quite like the sort of thing they'd do, and the circumstances of its appearance really make me think it isn't real. But I wish people would stop bashing it: they did the same when the REAL Untilted tracks were leaked, and then suddenly grew to like those tracks once they realized it actually was Autechre!
  8. I would love for them to do another album with a similar sense of adventure to Confield. Not that I haven't enjoyed their works since - but they threw away the rulebook with that one, and I'd love to see them do it again.
  9. Richard Devine is an obvious one (& other Schematic artists) Just listened to the new Robert Logan, "Inscape", too. It's excellent. If you like Autechre you'll probably like this. http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=176364
  10. Anyone heard of Meam? They're quite a nice group on Skam who sound a bit Autechre-ish and don't get much/enough recognition. And then there is Team Doyobi (http://www.myspace.com/teamdoyobi) who are cool. And there's a guy called Robert Logan (found out about on the Mary Anne Hobbs show) who is really good and Autechre-ish sounding (http://www.myspace.com/robertlogan). Definitely check him out.
  11. The worst thing about the review is her description of the videos. I can understand people finding Gantz Graf a bit difficult, but the accompanying video is so obviously incredible that to dismiss it like that is very stupid. When I've shown it to people, they've all been amazed at the synchronization of the graphics to the sounds and the sheer imagination and detail on display in the way the shape within the vido morphs. But I guess she was attempting to be funny.

I love Dial. I want to hear it live, very loud.
  13. True. Basinski makes awesome ambient, nothing like this 'experiment' by Ae Yeah, he's a great example of how to do it right, imo. Beautiful, dark, warm sounds.... Maybe the Ae boys have been smoking a bit too much themselves lately! :wink2:
  14. Ah, that's what it was. I thought there was something wrong with my brand new headphones!
  15. Same here. Much as I've loved a lot of Autechre's music, I do reckon if Clark put that track out everyone would rip it to shreds.
  16. There's something a bit rough and ugly sounding about this track that makes it hard to enjoy. I'm not talking about deliberate darkness, like in Confield. It's something irritating.
  17. eno's "thursday afternoon" was the first thing i thought of when i started this track. Yeah, but "Thursday Afternoon" has far more of an engaging atmosphere than this track, imho. I find the new Ae one neither relaxing nor involving; just vaguely 'there' and slightly annoying.
  18. Ah, that would be wonderful. That track is a strangely intense listen. I love the contrast between the glitchy metallic chaos and the beautiful slow melody. Great stuff. :-)
  19. I wish I could enjoy this track like I've enjoyed old Ae ambient tracks from the Garbage era, or perhaps like I enjoy minimal releases by the Hafler Trio, Steve Roach, Lustmord, Vidna Obmana, etc....but it just feels like 'something' is missing (like a lot of this new material, apart from the ambient one before this one, which was a pretty powerful extension.) I'd be interested in hearing somebody musical try and explain maybe why there's a certain something lacking here. Ah well, all their albums up until this lot have good (and I don't think I'll look back on Quaristice later and suddenly like it, because I've actually enjoyed their stuff pretty much immediately, especially Confield, which clicked with me on my first listen)
  20. Seems like a bit of a pisstake really. I wonder if they seriously think it's good, or if it's a joke?
