  1. No love for ep7. Maybe I'm biased because it was the first Autechre disc I bought, but I feel like it had the most personality and struck a great balance between their earlier, catchier sound and their more recent colder, more abstract sound. That and the progression from Chiastic Slide -> Cichlisuite -> LP5 -> Ep7 was quite magical.

Well, I think most people are talking about LPs, and EP7 is...yeah.

Great EP though. Probably the best one.

  2. i'm pretty sure someone with bi-polar would make good music

I thought WATMM liked shitting on The Flashbulb?

Anyway, I got a 29. I wasn't surprised. I don't think I'm exactly autistic, especially when I was a child. I've just slowly become more and more anti-social as I've gotten older based on a lot of things that happened in my life.

  3. What's wrong with Fanthony Antanafanthananthio? Even if I don't exactly share his taste, I think he does a nice job describing what it is about the music -- the music itself, unlike so many reviews that just focus on the 'story' of the artist(s) -- that he thinks is good.

    I like the guy's reviews.

autechretuinoriznflep.jpgRob and Sean of Autechre along with their good friends Sy Ableman whoops I mean Dominique Leone and Anthony Fantano and their pet fishing cat take a visit to Tuinorizn pier to visit Flep and gaze at the paralel suns

    I'm dying

  4. I've never heard anyone refer to receiving physical mail as things dropping in their inbox

see, that's weird, because i've worked in 3 office based jobs, where people receive mail, and we each had 2 paper boxes.

one called an inbox, and one called an outbox.

I think most people got used to calling it a mailbox because most people's mailbox serve as an in and outbox.

  5. weren't there 2 people in this thread who supposedly had access to the promos, one of whom stated he was going 'to listen to this tonight' like 2 days ago? what happened to them?

    sean: oi rob

    rob: yea?

sean: say, those two guys with the promos where we found out they post on watmm?

    rob: yea?

sean: what can we do with their dead bodies for samples?

rob: fill them up with cutlery and throw them down the stairs? then reverse that and add reverb?

    sean: lush

    lush

  6. So am I the only one who noticed that spl9 got taken down from Youtube? I don't even recall where else I had it for listening to.

I noticed this as well. I'm a bit apprehensive to be the one to reupload it though, because when I uploaded a Ufabulum track after that album released and got copyright noticed for it that basically made it no viewable in 90% of all countries. I still have no problems with the Autechre tracks I uploaded in 2010, which is weird. I'm considering putting spl9 up, but I don't know.

yep! did any iterations of these tracks makes it onto Incunabula or Amber? Incunabula came out at the end of 1993, i wonder what the exact date on this show was.

Well the sort of waspy vocal buzzing sample in part 3 here (say around 1 minute in) is at the end of kalpol intro.. aside from that I can't say. it's very similar to their incunabula work. you could practically lay a track like eggshell over top of it with a bit of time stretching.. same key, similar progression.

nice stuff, haven't heard it before!

You mean in part 2/the second video posted? That little rough, robotic murmur that comes in around 1:15 is clearly in Kalpol Introl (about 1:30 into it and from then one occasionally), also at the very beginning of Bike. A lot of it is very clear they're working with the overall same sound palette, but it still sounds really neat and a lot of it isn't clearly the exact same structure or "yeah, we tweaked a couple things." That is to me, at least.

Edit: I really fucking hate the way quotes work now when you click to quote a poster.

  7. I just use a generic electric razor with a generic two bladed regular razor. I barely have to shave, I didn't shave for 9 days and it wasn't even visible to the point I tried to take a picture of it to prove it to a friend and it couldn't be seen in the picture.

Edit: I go with the grain with the regular razor, then against with the electric.

  8. The 'chre have us in the palm of their generative patch. Many could be spirited away by a pastoral noodle from BOC but when you wake up on an unknown Scottish hillside with a 666 kaleidoscope, who can recharge the battery in your mechanical heart? As I type this, I'm thinking of Mary Wells' hit "My Guy" so I think I'll mod it a bit as an ode to my exaitement

    "Nothing you could play

    can tear me away

    from my 'chre

    Not even "Didgeridoo"

'Cause I'm stuck like dBlue to my 'chre

    Nothing Burial could do

to make me "Untrue" to my 'chre

    Nothing you could leak

could make me sneak a peek from my 'chre"

    etc.

This is up there with the Augmatic Disport lyrics.

I heard keyosc is just Sean and Rob reciting selected posts from the Oversteps thread run through a ring modulator. With some pitched down samples of bells, woodblocks, and dogs barking, just like really sloppy but in a fun kind of way. Absolutely mental.

One can hear all of the Alcofribas Oversteps review read by Sean in deadpan through a ring modulator in this track. "Dude, is this Bike? The final track is the entire album played again backwards."

  9. LP11.

I hope it doesn't sound selfish, but I really hope there's an accompanying EP, just like with all the other albums. That's always the [good] icing on the cake. I don't really think they can go too wrong with tDR artwork either. The minimalist with a wonky twist style works quite well and isn't ever too much to take in.

As for the Oversteps discussion, it's certainly not an album I feel will net them more fans, but it's a good album that's very cohesive. It does drag on a bit at parts though.

    Edit: I am excite.
