  1. Haven't heard Plasticity in a while, need to revisit. Wish it was on Spotify I'd put it on right now.

Technology: Western Re-Works 1992 was the first thing I heard from them, around the time Plasticity came out. I'm partial to The Crackdown if I had to pick a favorite. There are still quite a few albums in their discography I haven't heard.

  2. 14 years after his last release, edIT, aka Edward Ma, returns with a new "solo" album. I first discovered him in 2004 with his debut Crying Over Pros for No Reason (Planet Mu) which I really liked. His 2007 follow-up Certified Air Raid Material (Alpha Pup) was not on the same level but still good. I was aware of his role in The Glitch Mob, but realized early on that stuff wasn't for me so I haven't kept up with that work.

    1. Down For This
    2. That's Me Baby
    3. Find You
    4. Just Can't
    5. Take Your Time
    6. All I Want
    7. Only Believed
    8. Need You Now
    9. Bleedin' Out (feat. KAVYA)
    10. Tonight With You

Having said all that and now actually listening to the first single, "That's Me Baby", I'm not sure how I feel. ?

  3. From Throttleclark:

Playground In A Lake is a story about the last human on earth, the betrayal of an innocent child and becoming a grown-up; growing a shell over our lost young selves. It’s the playground we bury and a drowned planet; an extinction myth.

I haven't listened to the track yet because I'm dialed in to a work all-hands meeting but I just wanna say I really dislike the album cover. But I appreciate jules' version. Maybe put a shark in there?

Watched the first episode of Search Party on HBO. Jury is still out.

Haven't been in this thread for a bit, but wanted to follow up on Search Party. After 3 episodes, my girlfriend and I still weren't sure whether we should continue or not. Some of the characters were annoying and it wasn't going anywhere. We decided to keep going as we were invested...and boy are we glad we did. This show is fucking great. All caught up now with the current season, 4. Always nice to start a show when there are already several seasons out. Highly recommend this one.

Enjoying the What We Do in the Shadows series more than the I did the movie, although I really like Jemaine Clement and wish he was in this. At times it feels like it's trying too hard, but for the most part, I dig it.

Also been watching Big Love on HBO. In season 3 out of 6 right now. It's not great, but interesting as the mormon and polygamist lifestyles are foreign to me. And we're invested. Haven't found another hour-long drama we both want to watch so we're continuing.

Also enjoyed How to With John Wilson as others have mentioned, but all caught up. Strong Nathan For You vibes, which makes sense Nathan is executive producer. Only thing I don't like about it is that I get a feeling that John is faking his awkwardness a bit. Maybe he is, maybe he isn't. But it's good content nonetheless.

Oh I just remembered I finally started watching Jett with Carla Gugino. Watching it on my own as my girlfriend didn't seem interested, so only watching about an episode per week at this point. Only 3 in. It's not bad, I feel like I would enjoy it more if I didn't use my phone as much while watching, and if a week didn't go by between episodes. Nice eye candy of course.

His Dr. Who Dat and Shape of Broad Minds albums still hold up really well and are worth checking out.  Dunno if he's retired these projects or not, they reminded me a lot of Madlib back when (dude plays/produces virtually everything on them) while still being fresh & unique.

Doh! I completely forgot about those other projects. The Shape of Broad Minds album was quite good. Apparently I haven't heard Dr Who Dat?'s Beat Journey, only Beyond 2morrow but can't recall what I thought of it. Didn't rate it on RYM, so probably didn't listen to it more than a couple times.

  6. I revisited this last week. I liked Jneiro Jarel (and Doom of course) before this came out but it's still just a decent album.

Haven't heard JJ's latest from last year. Come to think of it, I'm only familiar with his debut album Three Piece Puzzle (quite good) and his Android Love Mayhem EP from 5 years later (think I only listened to that once).

  7. Darkside are back. Nicolás Jaar and Dave Harrington have shared “Liberty Bell,” their first new song in years. The duo has also announced it will release a new album, titled Spiral, in spring 2021 via Matador. Listen to “Liberty Bell” below.

Nicolás Jaar and Dave Harrington released their debut DARKSIDE EP in 2011, before sharing their first full-length Psychic in 2013. The following year, they announced that the project was “coming to an end, for now,” and later played their last show at the Masonic Temple in Brooklyn in September 2014.

According to a press release, Jaar and Harrington began writing new music together in 2018 and finished their new album in December 2019. The record is mixed by Rashad Becker and mastered by Heba Kadry.

Recently, Darkside shared PSYCHIC LIVE JULY 17 2014, a live album capturing a show at Belgium’s Dour Festival.

  8. I was very sad to hear this on New Year's Eve. Spent a good chunk of the days since revisiting the solo and collab classics, as well as first listens to DOOM's Born Like This, which I had ignored up to now for some reason, and KMD's debut Mr. Hood.

Hard to recall exactly, but Faith No More's Epic was the first thing I thought off when I saw the thread. I was 14.5, freshman in high school. A lot of my favorite 89/90 albums I didn't discover until later so I can't claim to have been listening to them at the time.

A few I was definitely listening to, after a quick look through my RYM database.
