  1. Like you guys, it's impossible for me to use presets, I always feel like I'd be cheating whenever I consider using some.

But it's a whole different story IMHO when it comes to someone else's work.

Some tunes are insane when it comes to originality, skills and craftmanship, but won't move me at all, and I then feel like all the obvious skills are worthless.

Some are deceptively generic, and even more so if you break down all their elements and start to analyse the tune, and yet for whatever reason(s) they just work their magic.

I went down the virtuoso rabbit-hole, listening to insanely complex/elaborated stuffs... to realise that it was a dead-end. The very positive thing though is that now I'm much, much less biased when discovering a new piece of music, regardless of its genre. It's liberating to me.

As usual, that's just my opinion.

  2. Let's agree to disagree then.

I can't help thinking that brickwall-limiting is irrelevant 99% of the time at mixing stage, and should happen (if needed/wanted) at mastering stage. Same goes for clipping, or any volume maximazing process to make the audio sound loud(er).

If you want to sound 'competitive' (still talking about loudness) there are tons of things to do which are more effective than using whatever brickwall-limiter you fancy.

Besides, making things sound loud when the targeted format is a 24bit lossless file (compressed or not) is just absurd IMO: 144dB of dynamic range FFS :)

Using limiters à la 1176 is a whole different story though.

    My $.02

  3. Nice new level, sounds indeed reminiscent of L3... but I guess I'm more a Level 13 guy.

I'd love to hear Aleski using his Colundi frequencies in some kind of Astrobotnia / Project V / Mental Union reminiscent material. Don't get me wrong, I loooooove the Colundi series, but I also miss the diversity and melodic playfulness/lushness of his older material. Not to mention the drum programming.

I'll buy and love the remaining 7 levels anyway.

  4. QQQ: and the sea is right behind the trees... ;) That's a shitty town in which I'm temporarly living, but that's damn sweet to hear the white noisish sound of the waves all day long.

Blysk: haha! Well, I had a nice music corner in my ex-flat, but nothing that spacious and cozy.

WR: nice set-up, and excellent tunes on your SC!

  5. Something positive about being single again : you can set a living room studio if you feel like too...

Now I just have to start saving again, as I had to spend a lot when moving to that flat. But eh, I have more time to decide on my next purchase : Rytm? Small modular with Intellijel Atlantis as the first module? Sthg else?

doesn't say much besides a tone-setter. But I am excite.

    edit:

An uncommon woodpecker of the northern coniferous forests, the Black-backed Woodpecker prefers burned-over sites. It moves from place to place, following outbreaks of wood-boring beetles in recently burned habitats.

I absolutely loved the first season, can't wait for the 2nd one. I'm damn impatient/curious to see Nick Offerman in it :

Season 2 will be set in the year 1979 in Luverne, Minnesota, where a young Lou Solverson (Patrick Wilson) is investigating a case that “involves a local crime gang and a major mob syndicate,” according to the show’s description of the season. Offerman will assume the role of the town lawyer, Karl Weathers (that’s with a K, not a C). He is described as a Korean War veteran who is a “flowery drunk blessed with the gift of gab and the eloquence of a true con artist.” Offerman did not reveal any other details about Karl, though he did note: “He likes to have a good time.”
