Anyone else ever notice how excellent a lot of Richard's tracks sound at a different RPM? Wanting to get the most out of Aphex's music, I have dedicated and re-burned many of his tracks either slowed down to 33 1/3 or sped up to 45; I must say, the results have been stunning - many of the songs sound completely transformed and gorgeous after being exported

These are my finds:

BEST RESULTS from:

45 to 33 1/3

In Aphex:

AFX237 V7

COME ON YOU SLAGS

CRAPPY (from any live shows) - insane

DEVIL'S HAIRCUT REMIX

DIGERIDOO

FLIM

HEXAGON - beautiful

ISOPROPANOL

METAPHARSTIC - so dark

POLYNOMIAL-C

TAMPHEX - hardcore

VENTOLIN (ASTHMA BEATS) - nice melody

WINDOWLICKER - bass is great

XTAL - gorgeous

ZEROES & ONES REMIX

In AFX:

BOXING DAY

BOX ENERGY REMIX - brilliant

MANGLE 11 - turns into a great DnB track

VBS.REDLOF.B

W32.DEADCODE.A - fantastic

In Caustic Window:

CUNT - crazy ending

HMNE - hardcore

ITALIC EYEBALL - superb

JOYREX J5

In Polygon Window:

IKETA

QUIXOTE - dark and soothing

In Mike & Rich

WINNER TAKES ALL - the hi-res LFO modulations are brilliantly chilling

BEST RESULTS from:

33 1/3 to 45

In Aphex

COCK VER/10

PANCAKE LIZARD - very cool

RHUBARB - majestic

THA - the melody is gorgeous

WEATHERED STONE - great beat

WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE REMIX

YOU CAN'T HIDE YOUR LOVE REMIX - the voices are chibi, but it works!:D

In AFX

AB5 TRACK 6

W32.MYDOOM.AU@MM - becomes something of a DnB track, sounds great

In Mike & Rich

THE SOUND OF BEADY EYES - turns into a great piece of break beat jazz

BEST RESULTS from:

78 to 33 1/3

The only one I found that worked so far is Track 1 off AB5 - 21 minutes of bliss<3

So what do you think? C'mon, give 'em a try in Audacity and see if you agree!

I only listen to Mt. Saint Michel at 33 rpm. 45 is way too fast. You miss all the little details, all the little 808 cowbells.

yeah my mate sent me this track slowed down too, don't think it was from vinyl tho think it was the mp3 slowed down to like 100bpm or something.

it was great, I came.

This makes me want to slow down all of Rick's work. Even if it was a 33, I don't need to speed it up(well I mean it's fun and sounds neat and whatnot but I don't think it would open my eyes to sounds and structures that I had missed before

there's a track or two on drukqs that are so fast, they often sound like speeded-up versions of those tracks he says he's made which go on for nearly an hour...

yeah, a lot of those tracks, you wonder if he constructed them at these BPMs and then sped it up afterwards, quite interesting
