Buying a new computer.

First of all, I'm way too fucking lazy to build one. I've done it many times in the past, but the moment one of your components doesn't quite fit or fails or whatever, you're stuck dealing with vendors and manufacturers from all over the planet.

So I need to get a pre-fab machine from Dell/Alienware/Gateway, etc.

Can anybody either talk me out of this path or suggest one of the pre-fab manufacturers? Know of any deals on current computers?

I just need a semi-decent gaming rig. Less than $1000 if I can help it.

if you've built them before and want a gaming rig you can probably build a decent one for like $500.

or i'll build you one for a large fee and charge as much for it as a dell

I personally would love to build a pc again, its really fucking easy, but like that gateway I edit linked has better parts than you could build your own at the same price

and I wouldnt worry too much if the pc your thinking of getting is vista instead of windows 7 if its got the perfect components for the price etc. most have free upgrades to 7 or windows 7 is mega turbo easy to get a hold of for free...

macs are for fags, did you not read he apparently wants it mainly for gaming.........??

I already have a Mac, sadly a bit old, but I'm not going to buy another one. It does everything I need it to and has all the apps.

I saw that Gateway on NewEgg, the only thing that bothers me about it is potential build quality. It sucks, but these manufacturers can get you a better rig than you can build on your own. It's a myth that they overcharge for shit.

They get such cut-rate prices from OEM manufacturers....

I'd personally go with Dell... they have really stepped up as of late when it comes to QC and their XPS (Gaming) line is top notch. Since Christmas is close, Dell releases many special net coupons and if you are patient you can get sometimes 35% off. Their warranty support is also quite good. I bought a laptop through them with 3 year warranty, on year 2 the mobo died and they sent me a whole new system with upgraded hardware.

Keep an eye on this link, it looks like right now you can get 20% off:

if you can't buy the right components to build a computer in the first place, you shouldn't be building one.

i've built almost every computer i've owned (except shitty fucking Macintosh laptops, and my awesome EeePC) and i've never had a situation where a hardware component wasn't compatible with the rest of the system.

you do your research and then you don't run into hiccups.

and this is from someone who's mainly bought components from online suppliers.

i would always advise someone looking for a new computer to either build it themselves or get a knowledgeable friend to do it.

actually. just ignore me. start a Jazz Band, or an IDM band instead. would be more easier better

lol the responses in this thread are so bitchy. did you not see that he just wants a prefab computer? jesus

dell is probably the way to go. i bought an alienware laptop but that was a few grand, so probably out of your price range.

You apparently didn't know that you can run Windows on a Mac, and when he's not gaming, he'll be running a safer and more secure OS, not to mention a chance for him to try something new for a change.

I know he wanted a prefab, but I offered the Hackintosh route as an alternative he might not have considered. I do second the Dell recommendation though, as they are currently the most consistent when it comes to price versus quality. HP or Toshiba would rank a close second as far as manufacturers are concerned.
