The moon is the same size then normal, it's just an illusion since it's so low to the ground, you can compare it with objects

I want to see the moon! But that would involve going outside and it's freaking cold. Is it full? Is that why tempers are running so high around this place?

the image of the moon isn't actually bigger. it's an optical illusion. it just looks bigger because it's near the horizon, so you have points of reference to compare it to, and it makes your brain feel differently about its size.

 

measure it. it's true. ruler out at arms-length, and be amazed.

 

and it's redder when near the horizon because the light is travelling through more atmosphere, and atmosphere scatters blue light more easily.

 

the moon does change size in the sky, but you wouldn't really notice, and it takes much longer for the size change to occur, because its apparent size is related to its distance to earth, which changes as it orbits the earth (takes approx 1 month).

 

are you contradicting yourself with your first and last points?

 

it's not an optical illusion, the moon has an eliptical orbit so is closer to the earth, therefore looks bigger...
