J3FF3R00 Posted July 27, 2010 Share Posted July 27, 2010 http://m.npr.org/story/128773367 In addition to jailbreaking, other exemptions announced Monday would: — Allow owners of used cell phones to break access controls on their phones in order to switch wireless carriers. — Allow people to break technical protections on video games to investigate or correct security flaws. — Allow college professors, film students and documentary filmmakers to break copy-protection measures on DVDs so they can embed clips for educational purposes, criticism, commentary and noncommercial videos. — Allow computer owners to bypass the need for external security devices called dongles if the dongle no longer works and cannot be replaced. That'd would explain why DVD Jon has never been prosecuted. Maybe, we, europeans are a bunch of dehydrated socialist scumbags, but i think americans concede way too many things to corporations (this along with let them tracking down drugs in your piss). TwiddleBot Posted July 27, 2010 Share Posted July 27, 2010 Half a minute of logo and fanfare just to get to the dvd menu plus two minutes of punishing you for not pirating the product by telling you to not pirate the product then of course all the trailers that come up by default as soon as you pop the disc in. It's not a huge deal but nonetheless, it's pretty irritating. I sat down with dinner last week to chill and watch dogville, the disc had trouble reading meaning I had to go through all of the above several times just to get it to work.. my dinner got cold by the time I finally got to the film.
