I'm not finished with either of these songs and I have a third song that's a secret right now until the guy I'm remixing it for decides what he wants to do with it. I already have some ideas of where to take both of these songs, but am totally open to suggestions. I'm picking up my Tascam Porta One from the post office in an hour, so I'm excited to put it to use. I'm gonna work more on these then. This one is just 2 synths so far. I spent most of my 1hr+ of working on it getting the textures and resulting mood proper to the idea I had in mind on this one. So it's a quick short render of the basic feel of the song so far. The Porta One should improve this song a good amount. I'm thinking of a nice harmonizing synth line with the main melody for sure. I'm not sure whether I want to add percussion though... thoughts? Keep it true to the old '70s thriller/horror film feel, or add a more modern beat? Suggestions here too please: Anyone recognize the sample? You clearly do lol. 99% of WATMM are Twin Peaks fans. I've been incredibly busy the last little while, but I have some time today and tomorrow afternoon to work on this some more. I'm going to tackle Abandoned Drive In first, as I've already added a thing or two to it since this render, and I really like what I have so far. More so than the others I have going atm. I'm going to keep it percussion free. Or maybe make two versions, one without percussion first and one with it afterwards, when I get more time. I picked up the last cable I need to have my Porta One hooked up much more conveniently. Unfortunately I only have 1 cassette tape at my current disposal and it's an old friend's release under the name Bastion Void. I'm not gonna tape over that, so I'll have to find another one somewhere. I'll try one of the local pawn shops for good quality tapes as soon as I can. Perhaps my misunderstanding comes from what you mean when you say: "the bass loses a bit of impact". Do you mean lower frequencies have less 'punch' at that point and need to be turned up? I'm heading to bed but thought some of you might like my new song. I'm gonna take tomorrow morning to go through a bunch of threads here in YLC because: 1) You guys tend to make amazing music which very much inspires me. So you definitely deserve the listen anyways. And- 2) I don't want to be that asshole who comes in just to post and advertise his own music without contribution to the rest of the forum. So I'll post one song for now and a bunch more after I give a bunch of threads a proper listen. I started and rendered this all within this evening. Only took a few hours. It's obviously not very complex. But it was quite fun and I really like the results. Quote from soundcloud so I don't have to type out the damn text again: "Got some odd vinyl to sample today. Here's a small sample used in different ways along side my favorite percussive work I've ever done. I put the percussion together over a decade ago and I feel I've finally given it a proper home. This track will have work on it still. this is just to show what I have so far. Nothing about the layout will probably change, just doing weird stuff to the sound still." (Huh...
