  1. Anyone got Sequential Pro 3? I'm looking for some quality mono (my most "expensive" synth is Korg Monologue, lol) and I originally decided for Subsequent 37. I've had it ordered and been waiting for a month (not in stock in my country) until yesterday when I accidentally stumbled upon Pro 3. I immediately canceled my order because this machine looks perfect to me. Now I'm researching Pro 3 online and falling in love with it.

it's not surface noise.  i'm well acquainted with that. this is possibly artifacts in the pressing. maybe not. could've just been wicked static electricity.  but the []pusher record played perfectly.

years ago i got some test pressings back and they were covered with the same type of noise. we didn't accept them and cancelled the order and got refunded. then found someone else to press the vinyl which was 100% right move.  i spoke w/a few people about this and turns out when lathes get old the cutting needle introduces lot's of artifacts like this.  you ever here DC voltage pop into a speaker? it's like a smaller version of that.

idk what your issue sounds like but my copy of SIGN (not PLUS, that one is ok) sounded terrible af. no scratches on any of the discs and no visible dust particles. i did a quite thorough cleaning in the antistat liquid and it sounded superb after.

Eastre is definitely one of those right-place right-time kind of listens imo. I found it strangely fitting this past September when the skies were filled with American wildfire haze for days on end. It has a pretty tense atmosphere for a 22 minute listening commitment, but in the post-apocalyptic (or presently apocalyptic?) world of today, it's not so hard to settle into.

    i'd say pre-apocalyptic

2020 was the worst year in my memory in every respect but music. There have been so many great releases this year and I feel like I haven't had time to give most of them the attention they deserve. Anybody else feeling a bit overwhelmed? Previously I felt there was a lot of new music coming out but I could sift through it pretty quickly and skip most of it but this year has been a bonanza.

list pls, i'm sure i've missed a lot of great releases and would love to listen to some

The last two albums were fucking amazing but this is like a neutral clipping album without a certain theme that indk t have to be in a specific mood for. And tracks like Summertime and taking of are just incredible

also let's not forget Splendor & Misery - some proper prog-hop

  6. Today I listened to both and I think I prefer SIGN. It's just more consistent as an album. While I usually prefer beats in electronic music PLUS just seems to me like a collection of alt mixes and outtakes. There are some bomb tracks (1, 2, 3 and 6) but apart from the first three tracks the album just doesn't have much of a flow. It's strange because the first time I listened to PLUS I was like "this is IT!" and now... not so much. But who knows, maybe tomorrow I will absolutely love it.

That reviewer sort of points up what I found to be the problem here, and it's an understandable one. When you drop a 4 hour album followed by an 8 hour one that are both full of what a lot of people (including me) cite as some of their most experimental and often best work in a long time, going back to a more traditional album length format is inevitably going to be - at least initially - underwhelming. We don't don't have the quantity. And on top of that, they've moved back to a more "melodic" form - as complex as it frequently is - than previous work that requires more structure and less algorithm. That isn't what many of us want from an Autechre release right?

idk, long time ago i've learned not to want anything specific from an AE release because the bros do as they please (as it should be) and my only job is to decide whether i personally like it or not

    AE ≠ AC/DC

    amber: meeereerh, but piezo

i'm glad i'm not alone on this... apart from piezo i've never really understood what people find so mindblowing about this album... i mean maybe if my first listen to the album was back in '94 (and maybe if i wasn't 5 years old then) i would get the magic... but the first time i've heard it was in 2008 and i've found it very dated in the not-so-cool way ever since

So far my standouts are the little piano-like part at the end of X4, esel 0 and marhide (which sounds like serenely floating through a sewer system)

yeah, what's up with that dumb piano?!
