I really think this is what we get for 2 years though Nah, they specifically mentioned the way their production proces changed and how they have sped it up. I'm expecting more livesets and more aep's (it's not an ep and not an lp, so lets call it an aep) the coming two years. Not monthly, or anything. But the intervals between the two sets of ae_live performance and the current elseqs give a good idea, I'm guessing.

I think you're doing 'people' short. People want to engage as long as they expect some sort of return which was worth the effort. When 'most people' listen to Autechre they either don't expect a return (as they simply can't imagine there being any), or believe the effort will be too big and the return too small. In the end, behind all the rationalisations about what people think would be good music, it's mostly about making an emotional connection, imo. And what I often see happening is that these connections add a relational dimension. "If he/she can't connect with a track in the way I do, than there must be a disconnect between us as individuals (on some level)." One being labelled 'hipster' and the other not, for instance. Which is understandable from an emotional point of view, but a load of rubbish if you think about it. I see it more as some sort of proto-religion really. If other people don't connect to music the way I do, there doesn't need to be any implication on the way I connect with those people, or any implication on the identity-level. But that's very much an 'acquired' mentality, I figure. And in some circumstances not a sociable one either, I'm afraid. edit: @ignatius/lianne

this album - yeah, calling it an album - has some chiastic slide-ish qualities to it. the mix between melodies and the stuff which is a middle between noise and rhythms on artov chain for instance. could have been called "art of chiastic".

yeah. was thinking about basic channel from time to time while doing the elseqs. the beat running like a heartbeat through the entire track while hiss, noise and tonal changes continuously morph around it. it sounds different in the ae world, but the philosophy seems similar, if you know what i mean. most obvious example is freuleaux perhaps - because of the 4-4. it's less dubby than bc, but the similarity is there. in my ears at least.

Lol! I'm guessing the kid doesn't like the smearing artefacts in the feed1 mp3 either

Yeah, for the people still on a limp (Jev), at least get parts 4 and 5. As other people have mentioned: these most likely have the tracks you'd prefer out of the bunch. My favs are on these as well.

Yeah, v0 makes the most sense most of the time. And the lossless conversion point is valid, however, it's probably a lot easier to just download the thing again if you need a different format at some point in the future. Also, mp3 doesn't look like it's going anywhere any time soon. I'm going the mp4 route. (true VBR, not the apple average VBR version...) Saw some test years ago where mp4 performed as good if not better (in some cases) as lame mp3. Especially in the problem-samples department, i believe. There were some mp3 specific artefacts not present in mp4, or something along those lines. But that was a couple of years ago, so might not count any more. As long as the compression is optimal and the sound is indistinguishable from the original, it's good. And compression is important, because there's not a lot of space on my phone...

I wouldn't assume bandcamp is 'getting by'. Haven't seen any numbers, but bandcamp might be doing just as good as Tesla. Meaning, they're still losing a lot of money but there's plenty of potential for investors to behave like angels. I wouldnt conclude that because bandcamp seems to be able to survive without having people pay the lossless tax, warp/bleep could do so as well. Wrt buying lossy or lossless formats, I'm personally in the lossless camp. Regardless of hearing any difference, I'd like to be able to convert lossless files into any kind of lossy format myself. If a newer better format becomes available, I'd prefer having the freedom to switch. The irony is probably that I'm using smaller lossy files than you could buy at warp/bleep. The warp/bleep mp3's are 320kps right? I'm more in the vbr-camp myself. So most likely smaller filesize. ;p

i have to disagree on this one. right from the start feed1 begins with this noisy aggressive alien electronic music. pretty dense stuff for the untrained ear, imo. the slow but aggressive and bitchy hiphop beats seem to remain throughout. and only later some more melodic pieces arrive. but the noise and aggression never seems far away really. the tracklengths are long. prolly too long for wider audiences. there seems to be more detail in the sounds than (ever?) before. but i dont see this drawing in wider audiences. few people will be able to make pleasant emotional connections, imo. this music seems to be about men creating and taming complex beasts of technology. and i'm in awe with what they have done here. they progressed even a step further from exai, imo. but i don't see this wider audience potential you're seeing. the emotional content seems way too inaccessible. and even moreso than previous work perhaps. i don't think this is a good place to start with getting to know autechre. but i admit i still need to get a better grasp on the music myself to make a fair judgement.

Tetrode has kids. Irl. Not sure whether he was irl involved in the irl seqs to produce them, but assuming he was, it happened well before the release of elseqs. In short: we're doomed.

Well, at least they didn't say they planned not to release on physical formats. So there's still room for hope. (That's what she said)

? I see a questionmark, but dont understand the question... I mentioned this a couple pages back. Trying to link elseq to twelb, you can kinda translate el=l=1 and seq= short for second= 2. It's a bit of a stretch admittedly, but who f-ing cares. If tou want to see a follow-up to exai, elseq definitly fits the shoe, imo. Both in size and naming! seq is short for second? I've never seen that. not in a dictionary, no. but we're living in a world where exai is a reference to 11. or XI actually. so ex=X and ai=I. so they're using a creative/loose form of logic based on pronunciation. same would hold for elseq, i'm guessing. which it is, btw. a guess. not trying to pretend i cracked a code, or something, because i really don't have a clue. obvs. sean, pls :^)

i suspect they actually made contact with an alien lifeform and let them produce everything. in my imagination booth/brown live happily on some Caribbean island, listening comfortably to what these alien lifeforms are producing. for them. if true, sean please name a new track 'pinaecolada casual'. ( calling a track casual? if that's not a hint, i dont know what is! it prolly means they didnt even have to make an edit)
